Premier Division League Clonmel Town 3 - 2 Peake Villa
The boy's can only blame themselves after handing Clonmel Town the 3 points when they were in the drivers seat. The game was played in stormy conditions and both teams found it hard to get to grips and a lot of passes went astray. In the first half, Villa played well and may have edged it where Maris Baltins and Kevin Croke in particular were controlling the game from midfield. There were very few chances in the first half and it was 0-0 at the break.
Clonmel scored 10 minutes into the second half some what against the run of play, when a free kick from wide found David McGrath who scored at the back post from a free header. From kick off, Villa made 9 or 10 passes before Pippy cleverly flicked a ball to Maris Baltins who cleverly released Dale Loughnane down the left who whipped in inch perfect cross which was met by Ronan Maguire in to finish his 46th goal of the season in all competitions this season. Villa took the lead when Town failed to clear a Mikey Wade corner and Pippy Carroll reacted quickest and drove home through a crowded box. Gary Lyons picked up a poor yellow card and being his 2nd had to leave the field. This changed everything and Town took over with a gale behind them got their second with 10 minutes left from a Tony Scully header. Villa tried hard to win the game and left themselves open at the back and town got the winner with a minute left.
This defeat ended our slim hopes of the league title but this young team is learning all the time and there is no doubt they will be in the shake up for alot of titles for years to come. Well done to Ronan Maguire who made his first competitive start for the junior side in all competitions and to go down to the Complex in Clonmel and score at 16 shows that age may only be a number. Well done to Clonmel who for the second week running showed great spirit coming from behind to take all three points.
