Division Three League - Peake Villa (B) 4 - 3 Clonmel Town (B)
Peake Villa went into Sunday's game knowing a draw or a win against second place Clonme Town would secure the League Title. Villa started quickly and were 1-0 up in the 5th minute when Ronan McGuire got on the end of a through ball and seen the keeper of his line lobbed it over him to open the scoring. Villa went 2-0 up when again McGuire picked up the ball near the end line and from the tightest of angles scored a great second goal. He secured his hatrick and his 54th goal in a tremendous season in the 23rd minute with a header from a corner. Ronan is having a fantastic season at the young age of 17 celebrating his birthday just last week. John Shanahan pulled a goal back in the 29th minute for Clonmel with an excellent free kick. There were no real chances in the first half and Villa went in 3-1 up at the break.
Both teams started well in the second half and it was end to end with Clonmel knowing only a win would do to take the league to a playoff and they got a great chance in the 55th minute to make it 3-2 when they were awarded a penalty. John Shanahan stepped up to take the penalty but his kick hit the post and was cleared by the villa defence which kept the scoreline 3-1 to Villa. Villa went 4-1 ahead in the 58th minute when man of the match Ronan McGuire crossed into the box and Billy McCarthy was on hand to tap into the corner. With time running out for Clonmel it looked like Villa were going to win this one handy but to there credit they never gave up and got a goal back in the 84th minute with a great volley from Dean McLoughlin. They made it 4-3 in the 85th minute when John Shanahan scored his second of the day getting on the end of a free kick. Villa kept them at bay for the rest of the half nearly catching Clonmel on the break in the last few minutes to secure the League title in what was a great game for all the spectators from both sides.
There were some great performances for Villa with young Ronan McGuire a constant threat and Damien Grimes working tirelessly up front along side Ronan. Captain Andrew Halloran had a fine game in midfield as did Shane McGuire in goal and Tommy McGuire in defense.
Well done to manager Tomas Rykala and Assistant TJ Quilnan and all the squad on a great achievement. Both sides meet again next Sunday in the Peter O' Reilly Cup final which should be another good game.
Scorers for Villa were Ronan McGuire 3 and Billy McCarthy 1.
A special congragulations to the McGuire family who had four brothers playing, Shane in Goals, Tommy centre mid-field, Darren left wing and Ronan striker.

Peake Villa entertained St.Kevins Thursday last in this u16 cup semi final and came away with a good win.
St. Kevins scored in the first minute with the Villa defense asleep. Villa started to get into the game after this bad start and played some good football creating some good chances. The score at the break was 1-0 to St.Kevins. Villa equalised with 20 minutes to go through Paddy Creedon. Creedon had a great shot 5 minutes later which looked like the ball had crossed the line but it was waved away by the referee. Two of the saves were made by the Villa keeper Eoghan Tinkler who got down really well twice to stop the ball hitting the bottom corner. Villa 16's now have a cup final to look forward to.
