League U16 Boys Peake Villa 1 - 2 Cashel Town
This was a match where the old saying bore fruit; “you only win if you score”. The weather during the match was atrocious, we had a mixture of rain, sleet and sunshine and its was Cashel Town who coped better. Peake Villa started the game well and had a number of shots on goal that were on target but well saved by the Cashel keeper. After 15 minutes Villa was caught off guard when a Cashel players kick from 30 yards sailed over the defence and into the top left had corner. Villa responded quickly to the concession of a goal and were unlucky not to get the equaliser when Connor Murphy ran onto a through ball from Jack Hackett only for his shot to be well saved by the Cashel keeper. The Cashel defence was presenting a united front against the Villa attack and managed to break up every attack that was presented to them. 10 minutes from time Mark Purcell and Jack Hackett combined for Jack to score the equaliser with a low hard shot under the advancing keeper. Half time Peake Villa 1 – 1 Cashel Town.
In the second half Villa had the majority of possession and despite this it was the final shot that let Villa down. Shot after shot on goal was just wide or over the bar or well saved by the Cashel keeper who had a man of the match performance in goal. Cashel were hungrier for the ball and were rewarded when from a poor Villa corner kick they broke quickly and despite two excellent reflex saves by the Villa keeper managed to score on the third attempt. Villa owned the ball for the last twenty minutes and besieged the Cashel goal but could not get the equaliser. Final Score Peake Villa 1 – 2 Cashel Town.
Youths away to Cahir Park - Match Called Off - pitch unplayable
Sunday 26th January
Girls u14 Cashel Town 2 - 1 Peake Villa
This was a top of the table clash and despite the blustery morning both sets of girls provided a very entertaining game. Cashel were quicker off the mark and had a number of shots on goal that were well saved by Villa keeper Saoirse Teer. Cashel’s defence were very much on top in the first half and were able to stop any Peake Villa attack from getting to near to their goal. After 15 minutes Cashel did get a goal, but this was ruled offside by the referee as Gayson Molloy was just offside. Villa who we’re match rusty were finding it hard to hold onto the ball and spent most of the first half defending. Cashel were finally rewarded for their continuous pressure when a great cross from the left side by Gayson Molloy was met by an unmarked Beatty Green for a tap in on the back post. Villa finally got a handle on the pitch and the blustery conditions and started to put together a number of good passages of play that resulted in first Lauren McCormack and Saoirse O’Meara having shots on the Cashel goal that were well saved by the Cashel keeper Ciara Dwan. Half-time Cashel Town 1 – 0 Peake Villa.
Villa came out fighting in the 2nd half and we’re unfortunate not to have scored the equaliser. Cashel also had a number of shots on goal that were well saved by Saoirse Teer. Villa conceded a second when from a corner kick, the ball was not cleared and on the third attempt Beatty Green shot on goal was deflected passed Saoirse Teer. Peake Villa responded by piling on the pressure on the Cashel defence and this sustained pressure was rewarded when a cross by Saoirse O’Meara was not cleared by the Cashel defence and Lauren McCormack pounced to score from close range. With three minutes left, Villa continued to pile on the pressure and were unlucky not to score the equaliser when first Sophie Rafter had a shot blocked, the rebound fell to Lauren whose shot was also blocked and the rebound fell to Sophie whose shot did not get passed the diving Cashel keeper who made a great save at the bottom left hand corner. Full-Time Cashel 2 – 1 Peake Villa.
