Well done to the Junior A team today who qualified today for the Tipperary Cup final by beating Clonmel Cletic 2-3 away.
Tipperary Cup Semi-Final Clonmel Celtic 2 - 3 Peake Villa
Villa travelled to Clonmel Sunday afternoon to take on fellow premier league rivals Clonmel Celtic in the Tipperary Cup semi final. Both teams started well playing high intensity football but it was Villa who took the lead when Pippy Carroll put Matthew Mckevitt through in the 19th minute who gave the keeper no chance shooting to the top corner. A controversial moment in the 35th minute when Mckevitt crossed for Carroll whose shot came off the post and hit a defender on an outstretched arm but no penalty was awarded. Celtic equalised in the 42nd minute when Darren Sweeney scored. Pippy Carroll made a great run in the 45th minute that took him into the box and he was brought down and Villa we're awarded a penalty. Carroll stepped up and put Villa ahead going into the break 2-1.
There were not too many chances created in the first quarter of the second half until Pippy Carroll was quick to react in the Celtic box from a Villa corner to put Villa 3-1 ahead in the 70th minute. Celtic pulled one back shortly after when a cross was not dealt with and Aronn Moroney was on hand to cut the lead to 3-2 in the 74th minute. Celtic could not find an equaliser in the last 15 minutes, if anything Villa had the better chances to extend the lead near the end.
Manager James O Sullivan would have been happy with some of the performances on the day from Kevin Croke, Gary Loyns and captain Pippy Carroll, but all the players could have been given man of the match and it really was a team performance but Keith Cahill today produced a display beyond his years with heart, hunger, elegance and skill. He proved to be a thorn for Celtic who couldn't keep up with him throughout the whole game, as he covered every blade of grass on the pitch and had the class and creativity on the ball to unlock the Celtic defence.
Villa now have the Tipperary Cup Final to look forward to against St. Micheals.
Scoreres for Peake Villa Pippy Carroll (2) and Matthew McKevitt (1).
