Premier Division League Peake Villa 3 - 0 Tipperary Town
Villa defeat the elements and Tipperary Town to start their league campaign with a win. Villa started brightly in their first outing in the league up at the Tower Grounds on a wet Sunday afternoon. The first real chance in the game fell to Villa in the 9th minute when good play from Tommy Teer at the end line saw him cut the ball back to a waiting Dale Loughnane who's shot was well saved by the Town goal keeper. Villa took the lead in the 14th minute when a great through ball from Pippy Carroll found Ronan McGuire who broke the defense and dinked the ball passed the oncoming keeper. 1-0 Villa.
Villa were on the front foot now and doubled their lead when a mistake in the Tipp defense was again pounced on by McGuire who lobbed the Keeper. 2-0 Villa. There were no real chances after this and Villa went in at the break 2-0 up.
The second half was a half of limited chances with both sides playing some good football. Villa had a few half chances but couldn't break down a stern Tipperary defense. Stephen Ryan was called into action on the hour mark and made a heroic save from the Tipp Town striker that looked a certain goal but he some how with terrific reactions got down and pushed the ball out for a corner. The work Kevin Burrrows has done pre season with the keepers has paid off as Stephen held out for the first clean sheet of the campaign. Villa had to wait until the 93rd minute for their 3rd goal when substitute Frank Mckevitt rounded two players and crossed for Anto Walker to knock the ball in to make it 3-0.
A good start to the campaign with some fine performance's from Tommy Teer, Anto Walker, Ronan McGuire and Greg Cully to name a few. Manager James O Sullivan and assistant Jody Brolan will be happy with the start the boy's have made.
The pitch was in excellent order for the first game of the season with Martin Cooke and Jim Ely working tirelessly over the summer months to have it in great shape.
