Premier League: Old Bridge 1 - 1 Peake Villa
Villa came away from this game feeling frustrated having not taken all three points after dominating the game for the most part. The first half was all Villa with Ronan McGuire and Pippy Carroll coming close but couldn't find the opening goal before half time. The second half started like the first half finished with Villa piling on the pressure. Villa had a great chance to take the lead with 20 minutes to go when Keith Cahill was ...put through one on one but his shot was straight at the keeper and it looked like it wouldn't be their day. Villa finally took the lead in the 85th minute with a great free kick from captain Pippy Carroll and it looked like it was going to be there day after all. However with virtually the last kick of the game Villa were caught napping when a long throw in was not dealt with and found it's way to the back post where Jack Kennedy was waiting to tap in for the Bridge. Very disappointing result for the boy's who were lacking the killer instinct on the day.
Division Two League: Mulinahone 0 - 1 Peake Villa B
A great start for our Junior B team under new manager David Birmingham with a good away win to Mulinahone. The boys were on top for the majority of game. They missed a couple of chances early on with Damien Grimes and Adam Garrett going close. Great link up play on the right involving Davy Carroll and Tommy McGuire was creating numerous chances which our boys failed to convert 0-0 half time.
In the second half Mullinahone came more into game in midfield causing threats to defence from long balls which Kevin Quinn bravely dealt with when required. The breakthrough came from a superb cross from Jimmy Pearson to the head of the on running Andrew Halloran who buried the ball to the bottom corner. 1-0 Villa.
Villa had 3-4 more chances to finish off the game before the end. Mulinahone had a few chances and a couple of great saves from Shane McGuire guaranteed Villa the 3 points. The whole team played well as a unit with superb efforts throughout from Davey Carroll, Kevin Quinn , Damo grimes and substitute Kieran Hennessy.
u12 Blitz - Peake Villa (A,B) and our thanks to both Lough Derg (A,B) and BT Harps (A) who travelled to play.
The u12B team won their match 5-1 against a determined Lough Derg B team. They played some great passing football with great work from all 12 players of the squad. Special mention to John Broderick who played exceptionally well setting up goals and chances throughout the match.
The u12A team won their match 2-0 against Lough Dery A team. This was a tough competitive match with full commitment from both squads.
The u12 A team then played BT Harps A team which was played at a very fast pace with both teams having their chances but unable to break the deadlock, final score 0-0.
Thanks to two u15 players Tristan Twomey and Tony Gavin who were great as referees for the blitz.
