Premier Division League Peake Villa 3 - 2 Glengoole United
Villa entertained Glengoole at lunchtime Sunday in the league. The weather was perfect for soccer and the pitch was in immaculate condition. Villa started well playing some neat football without creating much in the first 20 minutes. The first real chance came in the 22nd minute when Mikey Wade crossed and Ronan McGuire just shot passed the post. Villa did take the lead in the 27th minute when a great pass from Pippy Carroll found Ronan McGuire who scored at the bottom corner of the net. Villa went 2-0 ahead in the 32nd minute when Mikey Wade's shot took a slight deflection sending the keeper the wrong way. Half time 2-0.
Villa started the second half as they finished the first taking the game to Glengoole and they were rewarded for their efforts when they went 3-0 ahead in the 60th minute. Great play on the wing between Pippy Carroll and Tommy Teer found Teer in space and his cross was knocked into the goal by the Glengoole defender. The visitors were handed a lifeline in the 75th minute when they were awarded a penalty which was scored by Danny Rafter. Villa had chances to put the opposition away with chances from McGuire and Carroll coming close. Glengoole scored again in the 86th minute when Danny Rafter scored again to make it a nervous last few minutes for Villa but they hung on for the win. Some good performance's from Villa with Tommy Teer, Pippy Carroll, Mikey Wade and Gary Loyns playing well.
Division Two Shield 1/4 Final Wilderness Rovers 3 - 3 Peake Villa, AET 4-4, Wilderness win 3-2 on penalties.
Peake came up against a very strong Wilderness team in Clonmel today and had a great start when Kieran Hennessy beat 2 players and buried to the bottom corner from 20 yards out. Wilderness came straight back into the game putting a lot of pressure on the Villa defence and scored 2 quick goals in 2 minutes which probably reflected their early dominance. Not to be outdone Villa responded straight back a minute later with Kevin Croke finishing off a good move to make it 2-2 with 20 minutes gone. Wilderness continued to dominate with their physical and aerial strength and regained the lead to leave it 3-2 at the break.
Villa were much improved in the 2nd half and put pressure on the Wilderness defence and were fully rewarded when Kevin Croke got his 2nd of the game following a Villa corner to make it 3-3. It was nip and tuck for the rest of the game with solid defending from Jimmy Pearson and Kevin Croke keeping the game level at the final whistle.
Into extra time and Villa began to dominate as Wilderness began to fade and deservedly took the lead again through Kevin Croke to make it 4-3 to Villa. To their credit Wilderness responded and got the equaliser to level it 4-4. In the lottery of the penos despite a great save from Shane McGuire Wilderness won out 3-2 on penalties. A Brave effort from all the lads who put it up to probably the best team in the division through the efforts of all 14 players, great performance's from hat trick man Kevin Croke , Jimmy Pearson, Jamie Maher and Kieran Hennessey.
Youths League St. Michael's 2 - 2 Peake Villa
Villa youths travelled to defending champions St.Michael's Saturday for their league opener. Villa got off to a great start and had all the possesion and made it count when a Frank Mckevitt corner was powered home at the back post by Mikey Nalley. Villa were well on top and got a second when Ben Slattery cut in from the left and his shot went under the keeper to make it 2- 0 at half time.
Villa should have been more ahead at the break but for some wasted chances that would come back to haunt them. The second half was a more even affair with the home side getting more into the game. Villa still had the more clear cut chances but with 15 minutes left Villa were dealt a huge blow when Tallis man Ronan McGuire was sent off for a second bookable offence. After this Michael's went more direct and it paid off when they got a goal back with 5 minutes on the clock. The equaliser came in the last minute. It will feel like a loss but an outsdanding first half display from Villa with Frank Mckevitt deliverys causing all sorts of problems and overall a great team display and lots of heart in the second half.
All School Boys and Girls games were postponed for the weekend.
