FAI Junior Cup - 3rd Round Clonmel Town 2 - 1 Peake Villa
Scorer: James O'Sullivan (1)
Our Junior A team travelled to the Clonmel Town Complex Sunday for the tie of the round in South Tipperary. The first half was a cagey affair and a typical cup tie with so much at stake both teams kept it tight for most of the half with limited chances. Villa just edged the first half on possession without creating much. It was Clonmel who broke the deadlock on the stroke of hal...f time when Villa didn't clear their lines and were punished by Town's Jamie Ahearne. 1-0 at half time.
Villa were well on top in the second half and were pressing high creating a lot of half chances and came close on a few occasions. The equaliser came in the 70th minute when Mikey Wade crossed and the Clonmel keeper didn't claim it and James O Sullivan was on hand to head into the net to make it 1-1. Villa had their tails up now and were pressing very high up the pitch and were well on top but couldn't find a winner. Clonmel made it 2-1 in the 90th minute against the run of play when Town's Aidan McGrath scored. In injury time Villa pressed for an equaliser and all eyes turned to the referee when it looked like James O Sullivan was brought down in the box but the penalty wasn't given. Final Score 2-1.
The boy's will be disappointed going out in Round 3 having reached the quarter
final of this competition last season.
u17 National Cup - Round 2 Bohemians Waterford 1-2 Peake Villa
Scorers: Kevin Patan (1) Jack Ryan Casey (1)
Villa u17s travelled to play a strong Bohemians side in Waterford. With a blustery wind in their favour for the first twenty minutes Villa started very brightly with crisp passing and went 1 up when Kevin Patan was slipped through beautifully and finished with power underneath the keeper. Villa created a few more clear cut chances to no avail. On the stroke ...of half time Jack Ryan Casey finished a lovely move when put through one on one. Half time Bohs 0 -2 Peake Villa,
The second half saw Bohs come into the game more, making some chances of their own. Bohs missed a header from 6 yards which could have made it a different game. Villa were by no means on the back foot, creating a few guilt edge chances of their own, the best of which fell to Kevin Patan who drove through on a counter attack and would have killed off the tie but for a top class save from the Bohs keeper. As the minutes drew on Vila looked comfortable and were containing Bohs with the back four playing very well. The last three minutes was made very edgy when a dubious penalty went Bohs way and was converted. The Peake Villa lads showed great maturity to see out the game comfortably.
The stand out performers for Peake Villa were in goals Eoghan Tinkler, who was a towering figure all day and Kieran Costelloe who was outstanding at left back. Villa now go forward to Round 3.
