FAI U17 Challenge Cup.
Peake Villa 1-1 Drogheda Boys FC after FT and AET
Scorer: Kevin Pattan
Penalties PV 4-3 Drogheda Boys
The Villa u17 Squad made a little bit of club history today by qualifying for the last 16 of the FAI U17 Challenge Cup. Villa welcomed a top DDSL side today to the Tower Grounds and right from the start Villa showed no fear and great confidence going forward. Villa reaped their rewards when a flick on from Darren Flood put Kevin Patan through one on one with the keeper and Kevin coolly finished through the keeper’s legs to give Villa the lead after 10 minutes. The visitors grew into the game playing some nice football but not creating many guilt edge chances, Villa more than held their own with great fight and nice football throughout the team. Half Time Villa 1-0 Drogheda Boys.
The second half started in the worst possible way for Villa by conceding a dubious penalty after 3 mins which was duly converted. The sides were now all square but credit to the lads, they got on top for next 10 minutes and played some attacking football but could not get past the Drogheda Boys well marshalled defence. Mid-way through the half saw Drogheda have more of the ball, but again with great defence throughout the back four Villa boys, they didn't create many chances. With 20 minutes remaining, after receiving his second yellow card offence the Drogheda Centre-Back was given a red card. This seemed to take the wind out of the Drogheda sails and without much more action in front of goal, it finished full time Villa 1-1 Drogheda Boys.
Into extra time and with Drogheda looking to be wilting and playing for a shootout, the Villa boys found it hard to create much so AET finished Villa 1-1 Drogheda Boys.
So, onto the dreaded penalty shootout, but it was to be Villa's day, with all 4 Villa players scoring combined with 2 top class saves from hero of the hour Eoghan Tinkler, sees Villa progress to the last 16.
This was a terrific gutsy honest performance from the lads with so many good performance, Jack Casey and Kevin Patan in midfield to name but two were supreme. The club would like to thank the great support that showed up today at the Tower Grounds to witness a great result for the club.

TSDL Division Burncourt Celtic 1-2 Peake Villa Junior B
Scorer: David Bourke (2)
Peake Villa B travelled to Burncourt for what was expected to be a tough fixture and that was how it turned out as Burncourt took an early lead. The Burncourt player slotting home after good work inside the box. Villa got back level soon after when a great ball from Andrew Halloran found David Bourke at the back post and he slotted past the keeper. Villa took the lead in... the 30th minute with David Bourke finding space in the box to get his second. Half time Burncourt 1-2 Villa.
The second half was a physical affair, but Villa were playing all the football and had a lot of chances but just couldn't finish them off. Full time Burncourt 1-2 Peake Villa B.
TSSDL U18 Girls Cahir 5-2 Peake Villa
After a very poor start that allowed Cahir to go two up, the Villa girls settled and began to play some good football. They got caught out on the break and conceded another goal. The girls didn't give up and were rewarded with a goal after some good forward play was finished by Carla Rodriguez. Half-Time Cahir 3-1 Villa.
The girls started the second half well but Cahir scored again. The Villa girls were not willing to give up and after some great defending the ball was played out to Chloe Cummins in midfield who went past two defenders to slot the ball in the net. u15A Boys won 2-1 at home to Clonmel Town A
Scorers: Darragh Stakelum (1) Tony Galvin (1)
The boys were at home to Clonmel in just their 2nd league game of the season, off the back of a successful cup campaign thus far. The going on the top field was a bit heavy which didn't suit either team who can both play an excellent passing game. Villa started well and were on top for the first 15 minutes but had to be cautious of Clonmel breaking quickly from defence. In the 20th minute Clonmel did break and scored to make it 0-1. Villa created a lot in the final third and it felt like it was only a matter of time before they got back level. Villa were level in the 26th minute when a through ball from Alejandro Garcia found Darragh Stakelum on the edge of the box and Darragh calmly skipped passed two defenders before striking to the bottom corner to make it 1-1. Lorcan Cummins in the Villa goal was called upon to make an important save down to his right and the teams went in at the break level.
It was much of the same in the 2nd half with Villa controlling possession and creating the best chances throughout the half coming close on a few occasions. Darragh Stakelum was very unlucky in the 50th minute hitting the crossbar with a great effort. Alex came close from a corner, but his header was straight at the keeper. The second goal came from a great shot from outside the box from man of the match Tony Galvin who worked tirelessly all game. A Liam McCormack corner was only half cleared, and it fell to Tony Galvin whose strike ended up in the top corner in the 59th minute. The boys saw the game out after this. A real hard-fought team performance and a great start to the season for our U15's. Final score 2-1.
u15B Boys lost 4-1 away to Cashel Town A
Scorer: Oskar Milczarek (1)
Peake Villa u15B travelled away to Cashel. The underfoot conditions made it difficult for both teams. Peake Villa started the game well and unlucky not to be ahead with great chances from Sean Fogarty. After twenty minutes Cashel finally got on top in midfield and after good play in front of goal, Cashel went 1-0 in front. Peake Villa were under pressure for the rest of the first half, but for some good defending and Corey O'Brien playing well in goals, Villa went in 1-0 down at half time.
Villa started strongly in the second half and after great play down the wings and constant pressure in front of the Cashel goal, the ball fell to Oskar Milczarek who fired an unstoppable shot into the right-hand corner of the goals. Villa were back in the game at this stage. After good play down the left-wing Cashel scored again making it 2-1. Cashel scored twice more in the second half making the final score 4-1 to Cashel.
Villa never dropped their heads when going behind and were unlucky not to score one or two more before the game finished. Sean Fogarty gave a great performance up font as a lone striker and Ronan Carroll was excellent in midfield.
u13A Boys won 3-2 away to Clerihan
Scorers: Danny Moore (1), Daniel Rossiter (1) Kieran Purcell (1)
Wet and heavy conditions made this a tough game as the first half showed with the score 0-0. Then in the first twenty minutes of the 2nd half Villa played their best football. Danny Moore getting on the end of a cross for the first goal. Great wing play for Daniel Rossiter to lob the keeper for the 2nd and our 3rd was completed by our Captain Kieran Purcell with a cracking strike. 0-3 to Villa.
Credit to Clerihan, they never gave up, they responded in the last ten minutes with two quick goals. David Purcell pulled off a double save to prevent an equaliser. It was a tough game but a good away win for Peake Villa. FT 2-3 to Villa.
u13B Boys lost 1-4 at home to Cashel Town B
Scorer: Cathal Mackey (1)
Villa hosted Cashel in this hard fought league match. After a fair opening 15mins with both sides having chances, Cashel took the lead after some sloppy defending. Villa then took the game to Cashel and scored the leveller they deserved from Cathal Mackey. Villa started brighly in the second half and were unlucky not to take the lead. Cashel scored a goal from a clear offside postion and followed that up with two more quick goals. Villa pressed hard for the remainder of the game but had no luck in front of goals.
u11A Boys lost at home to Clonmel Town A
This was a great game played by the boys against Clonmel Town A. Both sides played some great passing football and took their goals well. Clonmel Town nicked the win with a goal in the last minute.
u11B Boys lost at home to Clonmel Town B
This was a good display by the boys against Clonmel Town B. Both sides gave it their all with Clonmel Town the better at finishing their scoring chances.
u11C Boys lost away to Shanbally United
This was a great display by the 7 players who turned up for Villa. They faced Shanbally who had over 14 players on the sideline, which made the game a very tiring one for the Villa players.
