TSDL Premier League Junior A won 3-0 at home to Old Bridge
Scorers: Ronan McGuire (3)
It was a cold blustery day at the Tower grounds this afternoon, but this not keep the spectators away as a nice crowd showed up to watch this Premier League tie. Villa started the better and from get-go had Old Bridge under pressure with some slick passing play. Villa’s efforts were rewarded when Ronan Scored in the 20th minute after receiving a lovely pass from Aidan McCormack. Villa had a couple of more chances before the break, the best fell to Frank McKevitt whose shot hit the crossbar after a great individual effort. Villa were on top for the first half and restricted Old Bridge to just a couple of half chances – halt time 1-0 to Villa.
In the second half Villa continued to press high up the pitch and in the 50th minute a superb pass from Sean Wade found Ronan McGuire who let the ball pass over his left shoulder and hit an unstoppable volley from outside the box into the top corner. Shane McGuire was called upon to make a fine save down to his bottom left to keep Old Bridge scoreless. In the 75th minute Ronan McGuire struck again with another fantastic strike from a pass from Mikey Wade, he flicked the ball over the defender’s head and hit a half-volley over the keeper’s head to complete his hattrick. Anto Walker put in a great performance in mid-field and was unlucky not to get on the score sheet when on the 80th minute his shot deflected off the crossbar. Final score 3-0 to Villa.
Great team performance with the wingers of Mikey Wade and Tommy Teer putting in a great display, but the man of the match goes to Ronan McGuire.
Paddy Purtil Cup 1st Round – Peake Villa Junior B won 3-0 at home St. Michael's B
Scorers: Kieran Hennessey (2) Kevin Croke (1)
Villa entertained their Division 1 opponents today and despite missing a few regulars still fielded a very strong squad of 16 and took the game to the visitors from the first whistle. Some early pressure from Villa with good work from Kevin Croke and Darragh Byrne in the midfield and Eoin Dwyer dominating the aerial battle up front. Despite some good pressure and good deliveries into the box Villa failed to back it up with a goal. In defence Darren Connor and Colm 'Jimmy' Pearson dominated a lively Michaels frontline and restricted the visitors to a couple of counter attacks from villa corners. Halftime 0-0.
In the second half the visitors began to get a grip on the game and had a couple of long range efforts which Shane McGuire in the goal dealt with comfortably. After a number of Villa corners, a super delivery into the box was met by the head of Kevin Croke to put Villa 1-0. Villa continued to push on and some great efforts from Kevin Croke and Kieran Hennessy brought a couple of saves from the visitor’s keeper. After a mix up in their defence Kieran Hennessy punished them with a right foot effort to the bottom corner, 2-0 Villa. After some more sustained pressure Kieran Hennessy got his 2nd goal to put the game to bed with 10 minutes left, Villa 3-0 up. Villa saw out the remainder of the game to reward a great team effort all round from the squad, with excellent performances from Colm 'Jimmy' Pearson, Darren Connor, Eoin Dwyer, Darragh Byrne, but man of match was the captain for the day Kevin Croke.
Girls u16 lost at home 0-5 to Cashel Town
This was always going to be a tough match, but the Villa girls did themselves proud by refusing to throw in the towel and battled hard throughout the game. The Villa back four of Jessica, Rebecca, Agnes and Chelsea and Sophie Long in goals were the busiest. Sophie playing her first game in goals had a very good game. Cashel were guilty of wasting chances but managed to score two before halftime. Chloe Cummins was close to scoring but shot straight at the keeper. In the second half Villa created a number of scoring chances but could not convert. Cashel created three chances and scored three. Fulltime 0-5.

Youths won 3-1 at home to Clonmel Town
Scorers: Michael Nally (1) Kevin Patan (1) Ronan McGuire (1)
Villa started the brighter playing some lovely slick football and after 10 minutes deservedly took the lead, when a well struck free from Mikey Nally was deflected and beat the Town keeper. Villa didn't rest on their laurels and with some great play they controlled the game. On 20 minutes a free out from Villa's half resulted in the goal of the season so far, the free was an inch perfect pass which found Kevin Patan, who controlled it with his chest and volleyed on the turn beating the Town keeper and in off the crossbar, a quiet incredible bit of individual skill. Half time Villa 2 - 0 Clonmel Town.
The second half saw Town grow into the game and after 55 minutes they got one back, when a cross wasn't cleared, and the Town striker found the net from close range. 2-1. To their credit Villa reacted well and began to play their own game, this allowed Villa to control the tempo of the game. They received their just desserts for their efforts 10 minutes from time when a fierce strike from Ronan McGuire was too hot for the keeper to handle and gave Villa a 2-goal cushion. The lads saw out the game comfortably without incident. Full Time Villa 3 - 1 Clonmel Town.
The man of the match for Villa was Kevin Patan, whose class display was capped with that outrageous goal. Villa go back to the top of the Division 1 league with these 3 points and keep their fate in their own hands with 3 games left.
u14A Boys won 5-1 at home to Bansha Celtic A
Scorers: Sean Gleeson (2) Scott Brennan (1) Corey Moore (1) Niall Dunne (1)
Villa started the game the strongest with some lovely passing play. Bansha found it hard to get into the game the way Villa were organised and moving the ball. Villa put together a good passage of play and took a well-deserved lead when Sean Gleeson ran onto the ball and slotted it home calmly. Bansha to their credit never gave up and equalised just before half time when a Villa mix up gifted the Bansha striker a free run at Josh in goals, who couldn't do anything to stop it. 1-1.
Villa came out for the second half on fire and within a minute restored the lead when Sean Gleason got on the end of some great passing moves by Josh Connelly and Scott Brennan, and he finished it with a well taken shot. 2-1 to Villa. A few minutes later, Villa pulled further ahead when Scott Brennan scored the goal his overall performance on the day deserved. 3-1 to Villa. Bansha tried to get back into the game, but Villa were able to contain any threats and with some good passing play added two more goals. The 4th was scored by Corey Moore and the 5th a screamer from Niall Dunne just before the end of the game.
The Villa u14's were missing a number of their squad, so a massive thank you to the five U13's who came in and who all played superbly. This was an excellent team performance by the squad today, especially both Sean Gleeson and Scott Brennan producing joint man of the match performances. great stuff lads.
u14B Boys lost 0-2 at home to Slievenamon Celtic
This result doesn’t reflect the effort put in by the Villa boys. They just could not take advantage of the scoring opportunities created. In the first half Slievenamon Celtic started the better and Corey OBrien in goals pulled off an amazing save to deny Slievenamon Celtic. Villa created a few chances, but the final shots were handled by the visiting keeper. Half-time 0-0.
Early in the 2nd half Slievenamon Celtic took advantage of a corner to score at the back post. Villa continued to push forward and were denied by excellent goalkeeping. First a shot by Dillon Nevin and a point blank save from Paul Cummins. A few minutes later Aaron Hickey played an excellent pass through to James Webster on the right wing, whose first time cross was narrowly missed by in rushing Christian Loughnane. Slievenamon Celtic caught Villa on the break with ten minutes left to score and go 2 up. Villa tried hard but could not finish their chances. Final Score 0-2.
