Munster Junior Cup 4th Round
Full Time: Peake Villa 1-1 Nenagh Celtic
Scorer: Pippy Carroll
Extra Time: Peake Villa 2-1 Nenagh Celtic
Scorer: Aidan McCormack
Villa Junior A made the last 16 of the Munster Junior cup with a hard-fought win over a tough Nenagh Celtic side. The wind made it difficult for both teams to play their usual game. The first half was largely forgetful with both teams not getting the hang of the conditions. The second half was much better and Nenagh took the lead after a quick break from a Villa corner after 15 minutes of the 2nd half. Villa then responded with their best football of the day and levelled 10 minutes later when Pippy Carroll scored with a lovely flick from a Mikey Wade corner. Both teams had chances the win before full time.
Extra time was more of the same, end to end with very little clear-cut chances until two minutes before full time, Aidan McCormack got on the end of another Mikey Wade corner to score. Villa will be delighted to have won a tough cup game and now go on to play their neighbours Thurles Town in the next round.
TSDL Division 2 League
Kilsheelan 3-4 Peak Villa
Scorer: Kieran Hennessy (4)
Villa travelled down to Kilsheelan this morning with a strong squad of 18 looking to maintain lead at top of Division 2. Villa started brightly and a couple of early efforts on goal led to a couple of corners which led to nothing. Some great play in midfield from Stevie Fewer and Davy Bourke led to an opening for Kieran Hennessy who finished to the net to put villa 1-0 up. The hosts were rewarded a dubious penalty soon after which they dispatched to the net 1-1. From here Villa continued to control possession and some great pressure on the home defence led to a back pass to their goalkeeper been intercepted by Kieran Hennessy who calmly scores from a tough angle, 2-1 Villa. Soon after, again great pressure from the Villa midfield and a super tackle from Andrew Halloran resulted in Kieran Hennessy put through on goal and again coolly beat the keeper to complete his hat-trick and leave it 3-1 villa at half time.
In the second half the hosts came more into game and soon had a goal back where a lack of concentration in back line let them in to make it 3-2 Villa. The game was level after a lovely free kick from the hosts went all the way to net with Shane McGuire in goal having no chance to keep it out. Now 3-3. Villa began to again dominate, and chances came and went before the hosts went down to 10 men and Villa now pushed on for the winner. Chances fell to Stevie Fewer (great save from home keeper), Damo Grimes and Heno, but were having no luck in front of goal. Villa had a couple of penalty claims waved away by referee. It was all villa now looking for the winner and after sustained pressure Villa were awarded a penalty which Kieran Hennessy dispatched with 5 mins left. Villa saw out the remainder of the game for a fantastic win to reward super efforts from Darren Connor, Kevin Quinn and Cormac Lanigan all solid in defence, super work from Andrew Halloran, Davy Bourke and Stevie Fewer in midfield and once again man of match Kieran Hennessy up front with four goals, who now has 21 goals in total this season. (18 in league).

u15 SFAI National Skechers Cup Last 32
Full Time Portlaoise 1-1 Peake Villa
Scorer: Alex Garcia Diaz
Extra Time: Portlaoise 1-3 Peake Villa
Scorers Cathal McElgunn and Liam McCormack
Villa travelled to Portlaoise to take them on in the SFAI u15 National Cup game. The game was moved from a grass pitch to the Astro pitch in Portlaoise. The game was a very tight affair for the first 15 minutes with both teams getting to grips with playing on a fast Astro surface, both keepers were busy for this period and pulled off plenty of saves. Both teams created scoring opportunities, Villa's Alex Garcia Diaz was unlucky not to score when a shot from the right went under the keeper who recovered well to stop the shot going over the line. Villa had the wind at their backs for the first half and were using the wind effectively with numerous cross balls behind the Portlaoise backs, giving Darragh Stakelum, Liam McCormack and Cathal McElgunn plenty of opportunities. Villa's keeper, Josh Coady made a great block to his left but the rebound fell to the Portlaoise no 10, who somehow managed to blast the ball wide with an empty net in front of him. The back four of Sean Condron, Emmet Fogarty, Shane Turner and Danny Treacy were not giving the Portlaoise players any time on the ball and were excellent at getting the block in or winning the ball back. On the wings Darragh Stakelum and Cillian Rafter were getting up and down the field well getting the ball forward as quickly as possible. In the centre of mid-field Tony Galvin andf Alex Garcia Diaz worked tirelessly to stop the potent mid-field pairing from Portlaoise. Half-time 0-0.
The second half started, and Villa knew they needed to keep the ball on the ground with swift passing to keep the ball under the wind. This they did very well, Villa broke down the left wing where Darragh crossed a lovely ball into Alex who controlled the ball on his right foot, side-stepped the out-rushing defender and calmly hit a low left foot shot into the back of the net. Villa 1-0. Portlaoise did not give up and continued to pile the pressure on the Villa defence, where first Sean Condron made a timely tackle, followed quickly by a great interception by Tony Galvin to keep Portlaoise scoreless. Villa were unlucky to concede a free just outside the box, from the free the Portlaoise no 9 rose the highest to head the ball into the net.
Game - On, both sides knew that the game was there for the taking. So both sides piled on the pressure to try and get the next score. Callum Blakebourough (on for Cillian) played a great pass to Cathal, who passed to Alex who took it by two defenders and hit a lovely pass across the goal to Cathal, who had run on for the return pass, but the wind caught the ball and the opportunity was missed. Full Time 1-1.
20 minutes extra time started with Villa playing against the wind and were unlucky not to score when Shane Turner turned a corner across the goal, that was missed by the onrushing Villa players. Josh was steady in goals and was well positioned to handle any of the long-range shots that Portlaoise were taking with the assistance of the wind. Just before half-time, Callum Blakeborough played a ball forward to Cathal McElgunn who sold a dummy to the defender and hit first time to give Villa the lead 2-1 at Half-Time of Extra-Time.
The teams switched immediately around and just after the start Tony Galvin played a ball over the top which was met first time by Liam McCormack who chipped the onrushing keeper to make it 3-1 to Villa. Portlaoise never gave up but their attacks were well marshalled by the Villa back four who gave an outstanding defensive display. Full Time 3-1.
The Peake Villa u15 squad have now qualified for the last sixteen of the SFAI u15 National Skechers Cup.
They join the u17 squad to give the club two squads through to the last sixteen of national cups, which argues well for the future of Peake Villa who are celebrating their 50th Anniversary this season.

Scorers: Shane Troy (1) Adam Jones (1) Jake Jordan (1)

Both teams found it hard to get any sort of flow to their play with conditions pretty poor. Villa got the breakthrough after 25 minutes, when a deep cross found Shane Troy unmarked at the back post. Half time 0-1.
Villa came out strong in the second half and scored their second when Adam Jones lobbed the keeper. Villa gave away a soft goal from a corner to let Gortnahoe back into the game. But Villa responded well with Jake Jordan making it 1-3 with a lovely solo effort. Villa added no 4 when Mark Davis scored from a free kick. The host stayed battling and got their second near the end, but there was still time for Sam Cooney-Shorley to make it 5, scoring another free kick. Final score 2-5.
