Sunday April 8th

TSDL Division 2 League Peake Villa Junior B 3-1 Wilderness Rovers
Scorers: Kieran Hennessy (2) Davie Mahony (1)

Villa entertained their visitors this afternoon in a top of the table clash looking to keep the excellent form going. Villa took the game to Wilderness from the first whistle and were producing some lovely passing, which the visitors were struggling to adjust to. After a couple of early chances not converted Villa went ahead in the 15th minute after good work from Eoin Dwyer and Davie Mahony, the ball broke to Kieran Hennessey who scored from a tight angle. Villa 1-0. Villa continued to dominate and Darragh Byrne and Davie Mahony were causing all sorts of problems for the visitors. During another great run from Darragh Byrne he was fouled in the penalty area and the referee awarded a penalty, which unfortunately Andrew Halloran hit the crossbar with the resulting kick. Villa regrouped and a couple of minutes later were awarded another penalty after a push on Darren Connor in the box but again Villa failed to convert when Kieran Hennessy’s kick was saved by the keeper. To add more misery just before half-time Wilderness broke down the right and with their first real effort on target they equalised to leave it half time 1-1.

In the second half Villa continued to dominate again and had a couple of chances which were not converted but Darragh Byrne and Davie Mahony were controlling the midfield area and up-front Kieran Hennessy and Eoin Dwyer were causing all sorts of problems for their defence. After super link-up play between all four players this led to Davie Mahony finishing to the net to put Villa 2-1 up. It was all Villa at this stage with Darren Connor and the excellent Cormac Lanigan in defence dealing with anything the visitors could offer. A clearance out of the defence ball was played to Davy Mahony, who with his first touch played a superb defence splitting pass, to put Kieran Hennessy through on goal and he made no mistake slotting it past the keeper to put villa 3-1 up with 25 mins left. For the remaining minutes Villa totally dominated and really should have added a couple of more goals to the tally, to reward the dominance in the game. Full-time 3-1 to Villa.

It was a fantastic result and performance from every one of the lads in the squad today to put Villa in a great position going into the last few weeks of the season. No man of the match today as everyone from start to finish was excellent and gave 100% for each other in a superb performance all round.
