U14 Premier Tipperary Cup Final
Peake Villa 3-1 St Michael's
This match was played in Cahir Park on the full length all weather pitch on what was a very hot day. Peake Villa went into this game as league champions and were hoping to finish off an excellent season by winning the Tipperary Cup to complete the double.
The game started with both teams up for it and the early exchanges were very competitive. After five minutes Villa lost their Captain through an ankle injury. The boys held their heads up and got stuck into the game. To St Michael's credit, they created the first two clear chances, only to find Josh Cody in goals in great from, as he has been all season, to pull of two great saves and keep the game scoreless. The Villa players came back in to the game with some lovely play and were rewarded when a great move between Ciaran Woodlock & Robbie Stapleton was finished off by the hand working Scott Brennan to put Villa 1 up. Villa had a couple of more chances through Scott and Niall Dunne to extend their lead but failed to convert. This gave St Michael's some hope and as they grew into the game they got their scoring chance from a strong run from their midfielder who took an excellent long range effort that found the top corner and gave Josh in goals know chance. Halftime 1-1.
The 2nd half Villa started as the 1st finished with Villa in the driving seat and with some great runs and hard work by Daniel Rossiter in the midfield who broke forward with the ball, crossed to find Ciaran Woodlock who put in a sublime cross for Brandon Mills to score to put Villa 2-1 up. Michael's never gave up and had a great shot heading for the top corner only for Josh Coady to pull off a super save to keep Villa ahead. Villa kept their cool despite some good pressure from St Michaels and were now starting to pass it around with ease. Another great bit of play by Darragh Minogue on the right where he beat 3 players to find Rossy on the front post who finished on his 2nd attempt. 3-1 to Villa. Michaels never gave up but Villa kept their heads and their cool as they saw out the remainder of the game in super fashion.
The referee picked the player of the match Josh Coady as he had another outstanding game, keeping Villa in the game at some vital times.
But as has been the norm all season this was another great TEAM performance for this outstanding bunch of boys to go unbeaten all season and win the league and cup double. Both John and Brian are super proud of all 16 on the panel for the work and commitment they put in all year. In what was almost a 12 month season, these boys never missed any training or matches and put in enormous effort.
Congratulations on a magnificent year.
