Sunday September 9th
TSDL Premier League
Clonmel Town 0-0 Peake Villa Junior A
Peake Villa travelled to take on Clonmel Town and what can only be said as a dour battle took place in the complex with both teams more concentrated on not losing the game than maybe winning it. Villa started brightly with some neat football had the upper hand without making a clear chance in front of goal. Our best chance coming just on half-time when James O'Sullivan put Pippy Carroll trough but a Clonme...l defender made a great tackle to deny a goal.
The 2nd half was more of the same with Town coming more into the game but still chances were few and far between. Willie Tierney made a fine save from a drive from outside the box with 15 mins to go. Villa finished the stronger but alas the goal was not to be. The draw keeps Villa's unbeaten start to the season going and its a point in Clonmel which has been hard to come by in recent seasons.
TSDL Shield Division 1 1/4 Final
Peake Villa Junior B 3-2 Cullen Lattin
Scorers: Darren Connor (1) Dave Mahony (1) Kevin Patan (1)
Villa entertained Cullen Latin Sunday afternoon looking to keep their excellent start to season going. Villa started brightly and some nice passing movements between Darragh Byrne, Eoin Dwyer and Stevie Fewer nearly resulted in an early goal but the visitors keeper was in good form. The visitors keeper was kept the busiest in the early stages as Villa had a number of corners and one of these corners in the 9th minute from Davy Mahony was dispatched to the net by Darren Connor to give Villa a deserved early lead. It was 2-0 in the 13th minute when a quick ball from keeper Shane Mcguire to Kevin Croke who’s long ball was excellently controlled by Adam Garrett who set up Davy Mahony and Davy made no mistake in placing it in the bottom corner to put Villa 2-0 ahead early on. Despite this lead Villa were not at their best and a couple of errors all round led to the visitors pulling one back after 25 mins when a long ball from their keeper was misjudged and ended up in the back of the Villa net. Half time 2-1 to Villa.
In the second half the visitors began to get more into the game and had a couple of half chances while at other end it looked like one of those days for Villa as a number of times they hit the crossbar post and the keeper saved and it came back to haunt Villa. Another long ball from the visitors was again misjudged by the Villa defence and left the visitors striker in 1 on 1 with Shane McGuire who had no option but to bring him down and the resulting penalty was excellently dispatched by the visitors keeper to make it 2-2. Villa made a number of changes and introduced 3 subs including youth players Jack Ryan Casey and Kevin Patan as they looked for the winner. More chances came and went with Eoin Dwyer, Stevie Fewer and Darragh Byrne had excellent chances but failed to convert. In the 88th minute an excellent ball forward from Mathew Fogarty found Eoin Dwyer who’s pass to Darragh Byrne was fed forward to Kevin Patan who’s first time strike was blocked but Kevin took the rebound first time on his right foot and a superb effort flew into the bottom corner to give Villa a 3-2 lead with only injury time to play. Villa saw out the last few minutes with comfort to advance to the semi-final of shield.
Not the best display of season from Villa but in fairness they had to dig deep to get the win after the 90 mins which was fully deserved. Best on the day for Villa were Matthew Fogarty, Stevie Fewer and Darragh Byrne.
