FAI Junior Cup First Round Kilmanahan United 1-5 Peake Villa Junior A
Scorers: James O’Sullivan (1) Tommy Teer (1) Darren McGuire (2) Mikey Wade (1)
Our Junior A team were on the road again this morning starting their journey in this season FAI Junior Cup competition with a solid display against a team currently topping the Second Division League. On what was a poor pitch Villa took 25 minutes to get the hang of the conditions and a super ball over the defence by... Sean Wade was headed to the net by James O Sullivan. The 2nd came soon after with a lovely goal by Tommy Teer. Darren McGuire then got on the score sheet with a lovely turn and shot inside the area to make it 3-0 just on half time.
Villa kept their shape and formation in the 2nd half and added goals from an outstanding drive from Darren McGuire and a Mikey Wade penalty. Kilmanahan scored a late goal from another penalty to finish the scoring. Manager James O Sullivan was able to empty the bench and give his squad plenty of game time which was an added bonus with some big games on the horizon.

SFAI Boys National Cup u14A Peake Villa 2-5 v Clonmel Celtic
Scorers: Danny Moore (1) Emmet Ralph (1)
Villa U14s welcomed Clonmel Celtic, to the Tower grounds on Saturday morning for the 2nd round of the SFAI National Cup game. Both teams started cautiously, but Celtic went ahead after 12 minutes with a well taken goal from a breakaway attack. Villa responded well, and equalised six minutes later, when Danny Moore created space for himself in the Clonmel penalty ...box, and slotted home superbly. The game then swung from end to end, until Clonmel regained the lead just before half time with another well finished goal. Half-Time 2-1 to Celtic.
The second half started poorly with Villa conceding a third goal inside the first two minutes. However they quickly replied when Emmet Ralph shot home from 20 yards, after a corner was cleared to him. Villa tried hard to get an equaliser, but it was Clonmel who went further ahead with another well worked goal. Villa pushed forward to try to get back on terms, and had three good chances to score but just narrowly failed on each attempt. Pushing more players forward for the last five minutes, Villa conceded again in the last minute. Final score Villa 2-5 Clonmel Celtic.
The score line does not reflect the effort that was put in by the Villa players. All played with full commitment and skill, and on another day, could have scored a lot more. Best of luck to Clonmel Celtic in the next round.
TSSDL u12 Premier League Clonmel Town A 1-4 Peake Villa A
Scorers: Tom Daly (1) Cillian Minogue (1) Chloe Shorley (1) Cian O'Dwyer (1)
Villa travelled to Clonmel Town this morning to take on Clonmel Town in Ferryhouse. The Villa boys were quick off the mark and Tom Daly hit a screamer of a volley to put Villa 1-0 up after 2 minutes. Ronan O'Dwyer continued his good run of form and pulled off a fantastic reflex save after a Villa miss-clearance fell to the Clonmel striker, who hit it first time, low and hard to the bottom left corner, but somehow Ronan got down with a strong right hand to put the ball out for a corner. Both sides continued to play excellent passing football and Villa increased their lead after 15 minutes when Cian O'Dwyer broke from left back, crossed the ball to Chloe Shorley in the centre, who played a quick pass to Cillan Minogue on the left wing, who sold two dummies and slipped back inside to hit a low right footed shot into the bottom left hand corner and in off the upright. Bill Fogarty, Lucy Purcell and Cian O'Dwyer were very solid in defence and were constantly making the tackles and interceptions to fustrate the Clonmel attack. Just before half time Villa made in 3-0, when from a Town corner Villa broke quickly with Colm Hickey, Alex Coppinger and Liam Gleeson combining to break down the right wing, for Liam to cross into the box that fell to Chloe who blasted a shot passed the Town keepers left side. Half-Time 3-0.
As you would expect Clonmel Town came out fighting and put Villa under a lot of pressure, but the defence and mid-field and Ronan in goals were running a tight defensive line. Conor Carrol was unlucky not to score when put through by Chloe, but his shot just went narrowly wide. Fifteen minutes into the half Clonmel scored when a mix-up in the Villa defence allowed the Clonmel striker a shot on goal that was well saved by Ronan, but the rebound fell into the path of the in rushing Town mid-field player who slotted the ball into the back of the net. 3-1. Villa weathered the storm and on 25 minutes a lovely passage of play which started with Ronan making a save, distributing the ball quickly to Bill, who pass to Cillian, who passed across the field to Liam on the right wing, who passed to Chloe in the middle, who stormed into the box and played a lovely through ball to Cillian on the left wing, who skipped pass the defender and crossed into the box, where Cian O'Dwyer hit the sweetest of left-footed volleys which gave the Town keeper no chance. 4-1.
This was an excellent display by the squad but Bill Fogarty gave a captain's display in running a very tight backline alongside Lucy and Cian. Well done.
TSSDL u12 Championship League u12B Clonmel Town 5-3 Peake Villa B
Scorers: Ben Moore (1) Leelan Donoghue (1) Dylan Cotter (1)
The Villa u12B squad also played Clonmel Town B in Ferryhouse this morning with the squad missing four of the squad, two due to u12 Hurling All-Ireland's Blitz in Galway and two had family commitments. Both sides were evenly matched but the difference on the day was the number of subs available, Town had 5 and Villa had 1. Clonmel started the scoring after 5 minutes when after great combination play, the Clonmel striker slotted a low ball past Cormac Bannon in goals. A few minutes later Cormac pulled off a point blank save to deny Town their second. From the kick-out, Conor Davis broke down the left flank, crossed to James Lloyd in the centre who played a lovely through ball to Ban Moore who jinked the defender and hit a screamer of a shot from outside the box, to make the score 1-1. Ben Moroney, Ciaran Murphy and Conor Davis were very solid in defence and Cormac was pulling off some great saves. Ten minutes later after two Villa players were leaving the ball to the each other allowed the Clonmel striker to nick the ball between them, run at the Villa goal to give Cormac no chance, 2-1 to Clonmel. Five minutes later Villa equalised again when Leelan O'Donoghue received a lovely pass from Adam O'Driscoll, who played a one-two with Jamie Butler, and Leelan blasted the ball into the back of the net, 2-2. A miss-kick by Cormac, just before half-time fell straight to the Clonmel Striker to make it 3-2 at half time.
Villa came out of the blocks determined to equalise and scored after some great play by Conor Davis and Leelan Donoghue who broke quickly after a Town corner to give Dylan Cotter space to run at the Town goal, he calmly hit a right-footed shot to score, 3-3. Unfortunately Villa had two players go down injured in quick succession. Firstly Adam O'Driscoll took a ball straight into the face, and was pumping blood and also a little bit dazed. Just soon after Ben Moroney took a bad knock to his right ankle and he shouldered on as we had no sub to replace him. In the last 5 minutes Town scored two goals, the first was a side footed lob that just sneaked in under the cross-bar, the second just before the final whistle when Villa were pushing forward to get the equaliser and were caught on the break.
This was a good first outing for the squad and they were unlucky to loose the game after a gallant performance.
