Sunday 7th October
TSDL Premier League St. Michael's 3-0 Peake Villa
Villa's young side were at the receiving end of a top class performance by St Micheal's. Villa were well in the game untill the 30th minute when Micheal's center forward showed his power to fend off our defence and put them 1 up. Two minutes later it was 2-0, another poor goal to give away by our normally outstanding defence. Half-time 2-0.
Villa then let in a 3rd 5 minutes into the second half. The game was over as a contest from then on. The Villa lads will know it was a below par performance by all on the day, but credit must go to the St Micheal's team who have been the bench mark for many seasons and now look to be stronger than ever this season.
TSDL Division 1 League Peake Villa Junior B 0-1 Glengoole United
Villa started brightly today and had the visitors on the back foot for first 20 minutes but no chances ending in the back of the net, despite the best efforts of Eoin Dwyer and Evan McCormack. The majority of the game was hard fought in the middle with Matthew Fogarty winning his fair share of the midfield battle. Despite the advantage of the wind Villa failed to create any clear cut chances with a Mark Lennon free kick going close.
In the second half Glengoole had the better of the exchanges dominating the midfield in the air and it took until the 80th minute for deadlock to be broken with a long ball headed to the net. Villa tried hard to get the equaliser and Mathew Fogarty rattled the crossbar with a superb strike but it wasn’t to be on the day for Villa. There was great performances on the day from Cormac Lanigan, Evan McCormack and Matthew Fogarty.
FAI u17 Challenge Cup 1st Round Tramore 4-1 Peake Villa
Scorer: Callum Blakebourough (1)
This game was always going to be a difficult tie and it proved just that. Tramore started well with some early pressure but the young Villa side were equal to the task soaking up the pressure and hitting the home side on the break that nearly paid off with Liam McCormack coming close on a couple of occasions. It was Tramore who went ahead tho from a deflected free kick. The h...ome side went 2-0 ahead right on half time which was a real sucker punch for the boy's. 2-0 HT.
Villa started the 2nd half quick and Callum Blakebourough scored to make it 2-1. This was as good as it got for Villa and they conceded two goals late on when trying to get back level. The best side won on the day and there will be no repeat of last year's run to the semi final in this competition. Villa had seven U16's in the starting line up today and two more on the bench and they played very well. Man of the match was Danny Treacy.
WFAI Girls u14 National Cup 2nd Round Tipperary Town Ladies 4-0 Peake Villa
U14 Peake Villa Girls were away to Tipperary Town Ladies this morning in cup. Villa had the best of the chances in the first half. But we still went in 1 nil down at half to a very soft goal. The second half was a lot tougher for Villa, with playing uphill and against a strong wind and no subs. Tipp Town took control of the game with fresher legs. Final score was 4-0 to Tipp Town. We wish Tipp Town all the best in the next round.
Saturday 6th October
SFAI Boys National Cup u13A Peake Villa 0-2 Cashel Town
On a breezy morning Villa started the brighter with possession but Cashel were fired up winning plenty of 50/50 challenges. Cashel were awarded a succession of free kicks from which a cross was not cleared and the Cashel forward poked the ball into the net. 1-0 Cashel. Villa continued to struggle against a resolute defence and didn't create any other chances before half-time.
In the second half Villa came out with more intent and created a couple of early chances but their overall play lacked the final finishing in front of goal. Later in the half when chasing the game Cashel pumped the ball long and the forward was smothered by a great save by Jack. Villa continued to press but Cashel's well marshalled defence stood firm. Cashel got a 2nd goal from a mistake and a delightful finish. Final score 0-2 to Cashel. Cashel played a good game and we wish them well in the next round.
WFAI Girls u18 National Cup 1st Round Lough Derg 2-8 Peake Villa
Scorers: Ellie Maher (3) Chloe Cummins (3) Anna (1) Latisha (1)
This team is growing with confidence in every game they play and the hard work at training was proven today by an overwhelming victory of 8-2. From the start Peake Villa pressed Lough Derg and scored 5 well worked goals within 25 mins by Elle, Chloe and Anna, by half time it was 5-0. With a few changes Villa started the 2nd half well again and scored three more through Latisha, Chloe and Elle. Lough Derg never stopped trying and scored 2 late goals. Roll on the 2nd round against Askeaton on Sun oct 14th. Special thanks to Lough Derg for their hospitality after the game.
2nd half started the same and Villa went 3 up again through, who else only Dylan Nevin. Villa made several more chances but failed to take them and this would come back to haunt them. Clonmel pulled one back with 15mins to go when the Clonmel striker made a super run and even better finish. In fairness to Clonmel they never gave up and this goal gave them a boost making a few half chances and from one of these chances they had a corner. The corner was played into the box and when Villa failed to clear the ball Clonmel hammered it home with only 4 minutes to go. Clonmel piled on the pressure but Villa were holding out until a mistimed tackle on the edge of the box gave Clonmel a free kick. The Clonmel striker hit the free kick low and hard and when the Villa wall jumped it slipped under giving goalkeeper John no chance. 3-3 and with no time to play it ended honors even.
Villa will feel they left it behind them after what was a very good performance all round. Excellent performances by Christian Loughnan, Paul Commins and John Phelan in goals. But man of the match on the day was Dylan Nevin with a superb hattrick.
