TSDL Premier League Vee Rovers 0-2 Peake Villa Junior A
Scorers: Mikey Wade (34 mins) Tommy Teer (57 mins)
Our A team travelled to Scart Saturday afternoon to play newly promoted side Vee Rovers. Having played them at home earlier in the season and coming out on top by the odd goal the boy's knew this was going to be a tricky away tie. Villa started well playing against the wind and across the field kept knocking the ball around nicely and worked real hard when not in possession. The opening goal came in the 34th minute when the ball came in from the left all the way across the box where Mikey Wade was on hand to calmly score in the bottom corner. Villa were well on top now and Mikey Wade turned provider when breaking threw and he squared it to Kieren Hennesy who scored but it was deemed off side. On 40 minutes Villa again attacked and Pippy Carroll came close but his shot came back off the post. It was great to see Pippy back from injury and he had a fine game in the middle of the park. Half Time 0-1 to Villa.
Villa started the 2nd half like they finished the 1st. The second goal came in the 57th minute. Pippy picked up the ball in the middle and skipped passed a couple of players, he played the ball out to the right to Mikey Wade who crossed to Tommy Teer who met the cross with a diving header which hit the bottom corner. 0-2 to Villa. Aidan McCormack had a fine game in midfield for Villa and was full of energy. Tommy Teer was busy up front creating some half chances and scoring a fine goal. Mikey Wade also had a fine game. A good team performance in what was a tricky away tie. Full Time 0-2.
Munster Youth Cup 2nd Round Bansha Celtic 3-2 Peake Villa Youths
Scorers: Liam McCormack (2)
Villa travelled to Bansha for what would prove to be a typical cup tie with Villa controlling the first half playing nice football and broke the deadlock 10 minutes before half time when Jack Ryan Casey slid a lovely ball to Liam McCormack who finished expertly. Then against the run of play Villa fell asleep for a Bansha throw in which resulted in the striker turning in the box and finished under the Villa keeper. Villa regained the lead on the stroke of half time when Liam McCormack was clinical again when he found space. Half-time Bansha 1-2 Villa.
It was a tale of two halves as Villa never got going at all in the second half and on 60 minutes a freak goal, where one centre half cleared and his clearance hit the other and went into the net. 10 minutes later the home side were ahead when a shot from outside the box found the net. All credit to Bansha who saw out the game and kept the Villa attack from scoring. We wish the best of luck to Bansha in the next round.
FAI Girls u16 National Cup 2nd Round Killenaule Moyglass 6-1 Peake Villa
This was going to be a difficult game playing away, which was compounded by Villa missing 5 key players and having no subs made this a much harder task. Villa worked hard from the start and defended well, created a few chances but the Killenaulle keeper pull off great saves to deny Villa. Villa had plenty possession in the game but in the 2nd half Killenaulle finished their chances and won comfortably in the end. We wish Killenaulle all the best in the next round.
TSSDL u16 Championship League Peake Villa u15B 2-2 Moyglass United A
Scorer: Dylan Nevin (2)
Peake Villa welcomed Moyglass to the Tower Grounds on a wet and windy Saturday morning. The weather didn’t seem to bother the players as both teams produced a very entertaining game. Villa playing with the wind started brightly and created a couple of decent chances. Moyglass then started to put some nice passes together, they broke down the Villa left side and crossed the ball for their center forward to score from close range. Moyglass then started to push forward more but with some excellent defending from the Sean Leahy and Sean O’Dwyer kept the score at 1-0. Villa almost equalised when a shot from Sean Gleeson was brilliantly saved by the Moyglass keeper. Minutes later Villa were awarded a penalty when Micheal Ryan Casey was brought down inside the box. Michael stepped up to take penalty only for it to hit the crossbar and the follow up was smothered by the keeper. Moyglass could have added a second before halftime when their forward was put through but put his shot over the bar. Half-time 0-1 Moyglass.
The Second half was end too end with both teams creating and missing chances. Moyglass were awarded a free kick outside the Villa penalty area and up stepped the Moyglass forward to lift the ball over the wall into the top corner giving the keeper no chance. 0-2 to Moyglass. Some teams might have dropped their heads but these boys kept going and started to push forward more with Dylan Nevin on the left making runs and taking on the Moyglass right back, he put the ball through to Micheal Ryan Casey who was again brought down in the penalty area. Up stepped Dylan who calmly put the resulting penalty into the bottom corner. Moyglass could have added a 3rd on several occasions but for some great goalkeeping from John Phelan in the Villa goal and some excellent defending again from Sean Leahy and Sean O’Dwyer who where outstanding at the back. With 10 minutes left Villa broke down the right with Sean Glesson who beat the left back pulled the ball back for Michael Ryan Casey who then squared the ball to Dylan Nevin who hit a left foot shot into the roof of the net. Moyglass pushed everyone forward to get a winner but with all Villa players helping out in defense, they could not find a away through. Full-time 2-2. It was a very tough competitive match and we are very proud of the boys today who never gave up and secured the draw.
TSSDL u13 Premier League Clonmel Celtic A 2-0 Peake Villa u13A
On a horrible morning in Clonmel, Villa travelled to Ferryhouse to play Clonmel Celtic. Villa lost the toss and played against heavy rain and a gale in the first half. Despite this they had more of the ball and half chances. On 16 minutes against the run of play a mistake led to Celtics first score. Villa battled and forced two saves from their in form keeper only to be undone by a 2nd mistake to make it 2-0.
In the 2nd half and the hoped for advantage of the wind and rain at their backs evaporated as the weather improved. Celtic managed to wear the clock down by good possession. Villa piled on the pressure with their passing game and managed to get 3 shots in quick succession away only for the keeper to continue his fine game and denied Villa. Villa dominated the last quarter of the game except for a Celtic breakaway in the final 3 minutes but couldn't find a way past the Celtic keeper. Good game by both teams in difficult conditions. Stand out performances by Jack Bergin and Conor Gleeson in goal, Cillian and Jake for their defence and Tom for driving the team forward.
TSSDL u13 Division 1 League Peake Villa u13B 2-3 Donohill
Scorer: Cormac Fitzpatrick (2)
Villa started strongly, Cormac Fitzpatrick had an early chance after a great James McBrearty through ball, but was off target with the final shot on goal. Donohill took the lead through a fine individual goal, but Villa responded straight away, Bill Fogarty playing Cormac through, who rounded the keeper and slotted home. Villa had more chances from Pierce Ivors but Donohill scored twice just before the break. Half-time 1-3 to Donohill.
Villa dominated the second half with Cormac Cahill, Kyle O'Donnell and Bill Fogarty controlling the game. Villa created plenty of chances, with the post hit twice. Cormac Fitzpatrick scored with 10 minutes to play. Villa did everything they could bar score and couldn't find an equaliser. Jack Bowe, James and Cormac all hand shots well saved by the Donohill keeper. Ronan O'Dwyer pulled off a great save to stop a breakaway goal also. Best on the day was Cormac Fitzpatrick and special thanks Ronan O'Dwyer, Bill Fogarty, Cian O'Dwyer and Liam Gleeson playing their first game in a higher age group.
