Scorers: Eoin O Dwyer (14 Mins), Adam Garrett (49 Mins) Tommy Brophy (51 Mins)
Villa entertained the Division 1 league leaders this morning at the Tower grounds looking to continue their excellent recent winning run and gain revenge on the visitors from a couple of defeats early in the season. The villa squad was well up for this game from 1st minute and it was evident that Two-Mile-Borris were in for a tough day. A lot of play at the beginning was in the midfield area where Evan McCormack, Seanie Butler and Jack Ryan Casey were battling hard and a couple of early half-efforts from Tommy Brophy and Eoin O Dwyer failed to find the target. In the 14th minute Villa went 1-0 up after a fumble from the visitors keeper, Eoin O Dwyer was on hand to pounce and took full advantage to put the ball in the back of the net. Villa kept the work rate going with Adam Garrett and Tommy Brophy were proving a handful for the visitors defence. The Villa back line were defending excellently to keep the visitors attacks to a minimum. Seanie Butler and Evan McCormack were victims of a few tough tackles as the game wore on as Borris began to get frustrated by the work rate of the Villa team. Half time 1-0 Villa.
In the second half Villa kept up the excellent pressure on the visitors who looked dangerous at times but again the back line of Kevin Croke, Darren Connor, Mark Lennon and Matthew Fogarty were excellent in defence. Villa had a couple of excellent mark Lennon corners that were close to been finished off by Kevin Croke and Darren Connor but the visitors defence kept them out. Soon after these near chances the pressure told as after great work from Seanie Butler, the ball was picked up by Adam Garrett who beat his man on edge of the box and curled a beauty into the bottom corner, a fully deserved goal from Adam for his hard work and Villa were now 2-0 up. Two minutes later Villa went 3-0 up when a free kick was awarded 25 yards out after another tough tackle on the ever running Seanie Butler, up stepped Tommy Brophy who curled his shot into the top corner, an excellent strike and Borris were rattled. The visitors now went all out and piled pressure on the Villa defence and up stepped Shane McGuire in the Villa goal to pull of two superb saves to deny the visitors a way back into the game. Villa had the luxury to bring on replacements for the excellent Seanie Butler, Eoin O Dwyer and Tommy Brophy. Darragh Byrne and Damo Grimes did the job they were asked to do and kept the visitors defence on their toes with their excellent work rate for the team. Villa saw out the remainder of the game and introduced Andrew Halloran and Davy Carroll to see out the game in one of the best squad displays in recent times and the delight for Villa at the final whistle was evident on the pitch and the sidelines.
It was a fabulous display against a very good Borris team and a 6th win in a row in all competitions without conceding a goal again, it was some achievement. On the day all 17 players in the squad today gave everything with another super display in defence from Kevin Croke, Darren Connor, Mark Lennon and Matthew Fogarty. Evan McCormack, youth Jack Ryan Casey and Eoin O Dwyer were excellent in midfield and up front Tommy Brophy was always dangerous and Adam Garrett topping a great performance on the day with a superb goal. When called upon Shane McGuire pulled off superb saves to deny the visitors, but on the day man of the match for his all round display despite taking some tough tackles was Seanie Butler.
