Celtic started the brightest and had the Villa defense under pressure for the first 15 minutes. Villa eventually started to get a foot hold and both sides exchanged scoring chances. Villa were denied a penalty on the 33rd minute, but were awarded a penalty on the 41st minute when following a corner, Kevin Patane was dragged down in the box. The penalty was put away well by Shane McGuire. Celtic found an equaliser on the stroke of half-time, so it was 1-1 at the break.

 

Villa started strongly in the second half and their hard work was rewarded when Jack Ryan-Casey made it 2-1 on 75 minutes from an Adam Garrett assist. Again Villa's lead only lasted 3 minutes, so all level at 2-2 on the 78th minute. Both sides created a few more half chances, but were unable to convert, so this cup-tie finished 2-2 at full-time.

 

The first half of extra-time passed with few chances for either team. In the second-half of extra-time Adam Garrett struck what proved to be the winning goal from an Eoin O'Dwyer assist on 104 minutes. Celtic never really trouble the Villa goal after this. Final score 3-2 to Vvilla in this lively encounter with Villa justifiably coming away winners.

 

It is hard to pick out any individuals on a day where all the veterans and youths alike give an outstanding performance. This was an excellent result and we move onto the 4th round.

 

 

The Junior A and all the schoolboys matches were postponed on Saturday due to the bad weather.
