TSSDL u12 Boys Premier League - Mullinahone 0-1 Peake Villa u12A
Scorer: Ryan Quill (1)
The u11 players James Bourke, Ronan O'Grady, Ryan Quill, George Barry, Billy Quinn joined the u12 players Chloe Shorley, Colm Hickey, Cian O'Dwyer and Connor Carroll. James Bourke played in goal, with Chloe standing in at centre back, Colm and Cian in mid-field with Conor striker, with Ronan right-back, Billy left-back, George left mid and Ryan right mid. What a game this turned out to be with Mullinahone piling on the pressure right through the first half, but were unable to get passed a resolute Villa rear-guard and an inform keeper in James Bourke who made some great saves to keep Mullinahone scoreless. Ronan O'Grady had a stormer at right back, with timely interceptions and defensive tackles that kept a lid on the lively Mullinahone winger. Chloe was rock solid in the centre of defence and her reading of the game allowed her to make timely tackles to keep Mullinahnone from getting through the middle. Billy Quinn did everything you could have asked for at left back and was quick to react to prevent Mullinahone breaking down the right wing. Villa's defence deserve major kudos for the display they gave today. In the middle of the park Cian and Colm combined very well, switching their defensive and attacking roles quite well. On the wings George and Ryan put in a trojan amount of miles to cover Mullinahone in their attacks and provide support to striker Conor when Villa were on the attack. Mullinahone were very unlucky not to score when a corner was cleared to the waiting mid-fielder who hit first time, only to see his shot rattle the cross-bar. Half-time 0-0.
In the second half, Ryan switched with Conor Carroll. Ten minutes into the half James pulled off the save of the day, when a first time volley was heading down into the left had corner and somehow he manged to get a hand to it, to push the ball out for a corner. Villa started to get more into the game and were unlucky not to score when George played a lovely through ball into the path of Cian, whose first time shot narrowly went over the bar. A few minutes later Cian was played in by Colm but his shot went just wide of the upright. Mullinahone continued to create chances but were unable to get a shot passed the Villa keeper. Villa were rewarded a free just outside their own box, which Chloe took landing the ball on Conor's head, who flicked it on to Cian on the left, who spotted Ryan free on the right, who rounded the defender and slotted home to the left of the keeper to give Villa a 1-0 lead. Mullinahone through everything but the kitchen sink at Villa, but the lads held out for the narrowest of victories.
Well done to both sides who played some great soccer throughout the match. Well done to the man of the match James Bourke, to woman of the match Chloe and all the squad who gave a 110 percent to secure the three points. A big thank you to the u11 players who came to the rescue.
