John Delaney Cup Semi Final
Peake Villa A 1-0 St. Michaels A
Scorer: Pippy Carroll
Villa's Junior A came out on top of this hugely entertaining cup tie. Villa came out of the blocks quickly and made at least three clear cut chances which to the St. Michael's keepers credit, were all saved well in the opening 25 minutes. St. Michael's came more in to the half and Willie Tierney who’s handling was brilliant all night saved a couple of efforts, 0-0 halftime.
Both teams had early efforts in the 2nd half. With 15 minutes gone in the 2nd half a penalty was awarded to Villa after Mikey wade was taken down in the box. Pippy Carroll sent the keeper the wrong way to put Villa 1 up. Villa's preseason training came to the fore as they were relentless till the end of the game with their tackling and closing down of the Michaels team.
A lot of positives can be taken from this game, with young Darragh Byrne's outstanding performance having his first competitive game with the A team. Also great to see the threat of Ronan McGuire up front after his venture with Limerick FC. It's hard to single out individuals after a tremendous squad performance and with both teams short regulars it bodes well for the season ahead. A special word goes out to Alan Leahy who started out on his 20th season playing for the club, Alan is a truly outstanding player who has been a top junior player in the TSDL for all that time.
