TSDL Division 1 Shield Cup Peake Villa Junior B 3-2 Slieveardagh
Scorers: Mark Lennon (1) Ronan Maguire (1) Adam Garrett (1)
Peake Villa B were at home today in the shield to a very youthful Slieveardagh side. Villa started brightly and had the Lions share of possession in the first few minutes, but failed to create any chances of note. On 7 minutes Villa had a penalty appeal rejected for what look like handball inside box. Slieveardagh capitalised on a long ball direct into the heart of Villa's defence to take the lead on 14 minutes. Following this the game was evenly balanced with both sides creating scoring chances but not converting. Slieveardagh themselves had a penalty rejected for what looked like a handball on 32 minutes. Half time Peake Villa 0-1 Slieveardagh.
At the start of the second half Villa introduced Darragh Byrne and Ronan McGuire who had an immediate positive influence on proceedings. Villa were awarded a free-kick on 49 minutes which Mark Lennon dispatched low and into the back of the Slieveardagh net, 1-1. On 54 minutes Ronan Maguire put Villa into a deserved lead after great work from Jordan Fahy, 2-1 Villa. Slieveardagh never dropped their heads and were rewarded after a defensive mistake in the Villa box allowed them to equalise on the 68 minute. This inspired Villa to react and they created four or five more half chances before Adam Garrett finally hit the back of the net on 86 minutes, from a Ronan Maguire pass, to seal the win. While the introduction of Ronan Maguire and Darragh Byrne helped change the game, best on the day for Villa were Jordan Fahey, Robert Jordan and Stevie Fewer. Up next for Villa B are Wilderness away in the league.
