FAI New Balance Junior Cup - Peake Villa Junior A 0-2 St. Michael's A
When these two teams were drawn against each other in the 1st round it was definitely the tie of the round, and it did not disappoint with both teams giving it everything from start to finish. The Visitors started brightest and had the ball in the net after six minutes from a corner but it was disallowed for a push in the back. The Villa boy's grew into the game mid way through the half and were the better team up to half time with Mikey Wade coming close from a half-volley on 34 minutes. Johnny Coleman broke through in the 43rd minute and the Michael's Keeper made a fine save knocking the ball out for a corner and from that corner Evan McCormack rose highest only for the keeper to make a finger tip save over the bar. Chances missed that would cost the home side. Half Time 0-0.
No real chances in the first 10 minutes of the second half with both defences on top. It didn't stay that way for long though as the visitors took the lead in the 63rd minute. Villa were reduced to 10 men in the 65th minute which really put paid to their chances. The visitors made it 2-0 in the 72nd minute. Villa never gave up and played right to the end. Captain Pippy Carroll came close in the 80th minute showing his class taking the ball out of the air turning smartly but his shot went just over the bar. Full Time 0-2.
Peake Villa B suffered their first defeat of the season in a heavy 5-0 away defeat to Wilderness Rovers. An under performing Peake Villa side were on the back foot from the off with the very physical and determined Wilderness pressing the game in the Villa half from the kick-off. Wilderness took the lead on 29 minutes after sustained pressure and added to the lead on 41minutes, with Villa having no chance's of note. 2-0 at half-time.
The start of the second half was evenly matched until it an error allowed Wilderness in for their 3rd goal on 52 mins. Villa made 3 personal changes and tweaked the formation but to no avail as on 63 minutes Wilderness scored their fourth without reply. On 69 minutes Wilderness again found a way through to make it 5-0. In the final 20-minutes Villa finished well with some good link up play and sustained possession but it proved to be too little too late.
Villa B will dust themselves down from this and go again next week as we know the league is a long season.
