TSDL Match Reports Week 13

Sunday 17th November

Munster Junior Cup 2nd Round - Peake Villa Junior A 7-1 Bansha Celtic A
Scorers: Pippy Carroll (2) Ronan McGuire (1) Johnny Coleman (1) Mikey Wade (1) Keith Cahill (1) Stevie Nolan (1)

Villa entertained Bansha at home Sunday afternoon. Villa started bright with some slick passing and went one up in the 9th minute when a deft ball over the top to Pippy Carroll who made no mistake. Two minutes later Villa went 2-0 up when Mick Ryan found Ronan McGuire who scored. Bansha got back into the game in the 18th minute when Tony Eagan scored. In the 43rd minute a great pass over the top found Johnny Coleman who scored to make it 3-1. Villa made it 4-1 when Pippy Carroll got his second of the game from an Eoin O Dwyer pass just on half time.

Mikey Wade made it 5-1 scoring from a free kick. Keith Cahill made it 6-1 in the 79th minute with a fine strike. Just before the final whistle Stevie Nolan made a fine run and an even better finish to the top corner to make it 7-1. A very good Villa performance from all the squad that puts them into the 3rd round of the Munster Junior Cup.

TSDL Division 1 League - Peake Villa Junior B 1-1 St. Michael's B
Scorer: Sean Butler (1)

On a lovely crisp morning up at the Tower Grounds both teams started the game minus a number of players and were evenly matched from the start. Villa went close early through Adam Garrett and Sean Butler.  St. Michaels looked dangerous on the counter attack but Kevin Croke and Cormac Lanigan were standing strong and resilient in defence. Jordan Fahy was again having a super display at right back and linked well with Tom Shorley on the right side. Adam Garrett and Colm Breen continued running at the Michaels defence, leading to a couple of Mark Lennon corners, which Villa failed to capitalise on. Michaels took the lead after a free kick resulted in a mistake from the Villa keeper and the loose ball was dispatched to the net by the away team to go in at the break 1-0 up.

At the start of the second half Villa started to get on top with Stevie Fewer and in particular Robert Jordan dominating the midfield exchanges, but Villa couldn’t get past the Michaels keeper who was excellent in the goal. Good work down the left from Mark Lennon found Adam Garrett, who’s super pass put in Sean Butler and this time made no mistake to level things up 1-1. Villa were now on top and pushed for the winner. Colm Breen and substitute Conor Lanigan went close but Michaels stood firm, who had a chance themselves to win it but Shane McGuire in villa goal made a good save. Time ran out for both teams in end to get the winner and game ended 1-1 to share the spoils with Villa feeling they had enough chances to win the game, but it was not to be. There was good performances on the day all round from the Villa squad, in particular Cormac Lanigan, Jordan Fahy, Adam Garrett and Colm Breen and man of the match on the day Robert 'Gubby' Jordan.

Saturday 16th November

Munster Youth Cup - 2nd Round - Two Mile Borris 6-2 Peake Villa Youths
Scorers: Jack Kelly (1) Danny Treacy (1)

Our Youths made the short trip to Newhill on Saturday. This young side had a great win in the FAI Youth Cup the week previous. The game was pretty even in the first 20 minutes but a catalogue of errors in the next 20 minutes decided this tie before half time with the home side going in at the break 5-0 up.

Villa came out a different side in the second half and to their credit could have thrown in the towel but they didn't. Villa scored twice mid way through the half with Jack Kelly and Danny Treacy scoring to make it 5-2. Borris added one before the final whistle to make the score 6-2 at the final whistle. A steep learning curve for this young Villa side who will learn from it.
