TSSDL Match Reports Week 35
Sunday 17th November
TSSDL Girls u16 Tipperary Cup - 1st Round - Tipperary Town 4-2 Peake Villa
Scorers: Chloe Cummins (1) Chloe Shorley (1)
A great game played this morning in Tipperary Town. Tipp have usually dominated these game but not today, playing away Peake Villa started well from the start, giving Tipp no space, but unfortunately against the run of play Tipp went one up. But our team never gives up and Chloe Cummins scored a great goal to level the game. As we pressed Tipp, we were then denied a clear penalty. As we approached half time Tipp scored a great goal to lead 2-1.
At the start of the second half Tipp started the better and scored 2 goals in 10 minutes. Villa fought back again and Chloe Shorley scored to make it 4-2. As Villa pressed to score, Tipp nearly caught us on the break a few times, but player of the match Emma Leahy pulled of some great saves to keep us in it. Villa created chances but could not get by the Tipp keeper. Full-time was a 4-2 win for Tipperary. This was a great squad performance by all 13 players and each player played outstanding.
TSSDL Boys u15 Premier Tipperary Cup - 1st Round - Clerihan A 4-3 Peake Villa
Scorers: Robbie Stapleton (2) Alex Moloney (1)
Penalties: Clonmel Celtic 5-6 Peake Villa u12A
Villa travelled to current Championship league champions Clonmel Celtic in the 3rd round of the National Cup. On a glorious November morning (all be it a cold one) for soccer, Villa started the brightest and had Celtic on the back foot from the off. Villa created a couple of good chances but could not find the net. Celtic started to grow into the game and had some good attacks but could not get through a very strong and confident Villa defence, marshalled well by Liam Gleeson. Villa had a super move down the right when Cillian Minogue cut inside and towards the end line and pulled the ball back for James Lloyd who hit the post with his flick and was very unlucky not to score. Villa created several more chances with Cian O'Dwyer having the best one as he was through on the keeper 1v1 only for the Celtic keeper to come out and pull off a great save. Halftime 0-0.
The 2nd half started the same with Villa making all the chances but unable to break the deadlock. But as in allot of games like this, Celtic had one break away and one chance 6 minutes from time and scored it. In fairness to the Villa players they never dropped their heads and scored the equaliser from a super corner played in by Alex Coppinger to find Dylan Cotter, who got his head on the ball and tested the Celtic keeper who dropped it only for Captain John Fitzgerald to knock it home. Fulltime 1-1
Again Villa kept the pressure up in extra time and had Celtic pinned back in their own half but in the 9th minutes when a quick ball was played over the top to the Celtic striker, who ran on to knock it home giving Ronan in goals no chance. Halftime of extra time 2-1.
In the 2nd half Villa never gave up and with 3 minutes to go got their reward, when a great ball into the box by Cillian found James who duly knocked it home. Celtic did muster one last chance only for Ronan in goals to pull off a superb save and force the game to penalties. Extra Time, Fulltime 2-2.
With Celtic winning the toss they elected to go first and when both teams scored their first 4 penalties each it was Celtic's turn to go but the Celtic striker knocked it high and wide. Villa had the chance to win it with penalty no.5 but when the ball hit the crossbar and went over, it was now down to sudden death penalties. Both teams scored the 1st sudden death penalty and when Celtic missed their 2nd, up stepped James Lloyd to knock home the winner for Villa to advance to the 4th round.
Super squad performance with all 16 players playing tremendous stuff. Player of the match on the day was Alex Coppinger, who worked tirelessly on the left hand side but again this was a super squad effort with every player giving 100% and showing the strength in depth of this squad.
