Villa hosted Moyglass this morning at the Tower Grounds looking to continue their good cup form. Villa started brightly and had an early chance when Adam Garrett went through 1 on 1 but the keeper made the save. John Walsh and Robert "Gubby" Jordan also had chances but the Moyglass keeper made some great saves. Seanie Butler playing left back had a couple of efforts on goal but failed to hit the target. With Conor Lanigan, Gubby Jordan, Andrew Halloran and Kevin Patan on top in midfield the chances kept coming for the home team. John Walsh and Adam Garret were linking well and Villa's efforts were rewarded on the 27th minute after some good play from Jordan Fahy on the right, Gubby Jordan put Conor Lanigan In on goal, but Conor was fouled, resulting in a Villa penalty. This was dispatched by Gubby Jordan to put Villa 1-0 up. Kevin Patan was unlucky not too score after a great ball over the top by Andrew Halloran, was flicked by Kevin over the keepers head, only for the Moyglass defender to block it going over the line. The defensive back four of Jordan Fahey, Kevin Croke, Cormac Lanigan and Seanie Butler were very tight and restricted Moyglass to shots from outside the box, which were handled by Lorcan Cummins in goal. Conor Lanigan was having a lot of joy on the right and after an excellent long ball from Cormac Lanigan, Conor crossed into the box, the ball was met by Kevin Patan in the air, who side footed the ball first time to set up Gubby Jordan, who smashed the ball into the roof of the net, to score his and Villa's second goal. Half-time 2-0 Villa.
The second half began the same with Villa on the front foot and had a couple of chances through Colm Breen and John Walsh but keeper made the saves. Soon after Gubby Jordan went around the home keeper and had open goal to complete his hat trick but his shot came back off the crossbar to the relief of the Moyglass defence. Moyglass on a quick counter attack scored when a mistake in the Villa defence allowed the visitors to score giving Lorcan Cummins no chance in home goal. Despite this set back Villa continued to push on and in the 78th minute Kevin Croke set up Gubby Jordan again and this time he made no mistake to put villa 3-1 up and score his hattrick. In the 86th minute a good run from Kevin Patan through the heart of the visitors defence set up Colm Breen to make it 4-1 to Villa and in the final minute after the keeper fumbled a John Walsh shot Kevin Croke was on hand to make it 5-1 to Villa, who now move onto the next round.
A good sporting game from both teams, solid performances on the day all round in particular John Walsh, Conor Lanigan, Seanie Butler and man of the match Gubby Jordan.
