TSSDL Match Reports Week 38
Scorers: CT (OG), Liam McCormack (2) Scott Brennan (1) Robbie Stapleton (1)
Villa got off to a great start in this fixture with some great chances early on but it was an OG from the Clonmel centre-back that put Villa 1 up, who sliced the ball when trying to clear. Danny Treacy and Sean Condron playing great ball from the middle of the pitch setting our wingers up with great runs, that kept the Clonmel defence under pressure. Close to half-time Villa were awarded a penalty when Robbie was one on one with the keeper but the Clonmel defender clipped him from behind and resulted in the Town player being sent off. Liam McCormack stepped up and stuck it into the net to put Villa 2 up at the brake.
Villa came out at the start of the second half knowing the score line at 2-0, they needed a 3rd and got stuck in early again with great play from our back 4 to move the ball quickly up the pitch and link with midfield and set Liam in for his second. Shortly after a great run from Scott Brennan in around the Town defence and a great finish past the Town keeper to make it 3-0 to Villa. Villa also went down to 10 men with 15 minutes left, Sean Condron stepped back into centre half and Town started to push forward but couldn't get anything from the Villa back four. Just before the final whistle a Messi like twist and turn saw Robbie neatly finish the ball to one side of the keeper and finish the game with a 5-0 result to Villa.
Excellent performance from Villa today, very hard to call Man of the match as everyone were superb but the players of the day were (c) Sean Condron, Danny Treacy and Liam McCormack.
SFAI Skechers u13 National Cup - Round 4 - Stoneyford United (Kilkenny) 0-2 Peake Villa u12
Scorers: Chloe Shorley (1) Cillian Minogue (1)
Peake Villa travelled to Stoneyford United of Kilkenny looking to make it through to the last 32 of the SFAI Skechers National Cup and the South East Regional semi-final. On a glorious December morning for soccer, Villa started the brightest and had Stoneyford on the back foot from the off. Villa created a couple of good chances but could not find the net. Villa did make the Stoneyford keeper work hard to keep his team in the game. Stoneyford tried to get into the game and had some good attacks but could not get through a very strong and confident Villa defence, marshalled well by Liam Gleeson, with Ben Moroney, Alex Coppinger and Colm Hickey snuffing out any attack before they started and turning them into attacks of our own. Villa were creating several chances with Leelan Donoghue, John Fitzgerald and Darragh Chute in the midfield driving the team forward and the front 3 of Dylan Cotter, Cian O'Dwyer & Conor Carroll causing the Stoneyford defence all kinds of problems but unfortunately we could not find the opener. Just before half-time Villa's Dylan Cotter sent in a lovely corner that Ben Moroney got his head to, but his header was straight at the keeper. Halftime 0-0.
The 2nd half started a little different with Stoneyford taking the game to Villa, pressing us high up the pitch and not giving our defence any time to settle on the ball or to find a pass. Ronan O'Dwyer in goals had to be on his best to pull off 2 great saves to prevent us from going behind. With the difficult 15 minutes out of the way, Villa did finally get back in control and the back 4 and the midfield 3 of John Fitzgerald, Tom Daly and Darragh Chute getting a grip on things and providing the front 3 of Cillian Minogue, James Lloyd and Chloe Shorley with some great balls for them to put the pressure back on Stoneyford keeper and their defence. With only 4 minutes to go, Villa did find the net when a great move down the left found Chloe unmarked in the box and with some good footwork she got her shot away to lob the keeper and see the ball sneak over the line. 0-1 Villa. After the kick off Villa won the ball back quick and had Stoneyford pinned in. Two minutes later when another great move down the left involving no less that 4 players found Cillian in the box for him to finish well into the far corner to make it 0-2 to Villa. Villa controlled the game for the last few minutes to finish deserving winners and advance to the last 32 and a Regional Semi-Final. Fulltime 0-2.
This was a super squad performance with all 16 players playing their part and giving their all. Subs coming in and out without any disruption to the shape or play of the team. Player of the match on the day was difficult to pick as this was another super squad effort with every player giving 100% and showing the strength in depth of this squad. Today for all his work driving the team forward and his tireless work getting back to defend when needed Darragh Shute is player of the match. We would like to thank Stoneyford for their hospitality, providing the players and supporters with some snacks after the game.
