Peake Villa FC Club would like to pass on their condolences to the family of John Butler of Kavanagh Place, Thurles.
John served as the club PRO for numerous years and was an outstanding officer of the club. John had a brilliant way with the pen to which Peake Villa was always to the fore with local press. John had a great relationship with the Tipperary Star and there wouldn't be a week go by where he hadn't a report on the schoolboys and girl's or the juniors. This was done back in the day when the reports had to be hand delivered to the newspaper office by mid-day Monday.
John was held in such high esteem on his reporting that he went on to become an officer of the TSDL League where he was again the PRO and reported on all finals and occasions that the TSDL league was involved in for a number of years.
Sadly John fell into poor health for a few years and wasn't seen as often as we would have liked. He and his wife Edwina did try and make as many home matches as they could. John will go down in the history of the club as one of its greatest volunteers.
Reposing in Hugh Ryan's Funeral Home, Slievenamon Road, Thurles on Saturday, 21st Dec., from 5pm to 7pm. Arriving at the Cathedral of the Assumption Thurles on Sunday, 22nd Dec., for Requiem Mass at 12 noon, followed by Cremation in Shannon Crematorium at 3pm.
