TSDL Match Reports Week 23

Sunday 2nd February

TSDL Premier League
St. Michael's A 2-1 Peake Villa Junior A
Scorer: Maris Baltins (1)

Villa came out the wrong side of this top of the table clash with a fine display alas just coming up short to a fine Michael's team.  A fine move by Michael's down the right hand side saw David Slattery apply the finish from the resulting cross after 15 minutes. Villa gradually got into the game and put the Michael's defence under pressure with a couple of half chances going a begging. 1-0 to St. Michael's at half-time.

The 2nd half wasn't a minute old when Michael's scored their second with an almost identical goal to the first goal with David Slattery on hand again with a fine finish. Villa to their credit then upped it a gear and started to dominate with Stevie Nolan coming to the fore in the middle of the field. Villa kept Michael's on the back foot for a lot of the 2nd half. Villa were not to be denied and a fine finish from Maris Baltins made for a hectic last 10 minutes. Villa piled on the pressure but alas the equalising goal wouldn't come. 2-1 to St. Michael's full-time.

Villa have a Tipperary Cup game next Sunday v Oldbridge where they will hope to advance to the last 8 and keep up the fight for league and cup honours.

TSDL Division 1 League -
Old Bridge B 3-2 Peake Villa Junior B

Colm Breen (1) Adam Garrett (1)

Old Bridge had a fast Start and we're 1-0 up from a corner after 2 minutes. Villa keeper Shane McGuire received a heavy challenge on the 8th minute which ended his participation in the proceedings for the day. Beside these two early upsets, Villa started playing the better football and had chances in the first half before Colm Breen made it 1-1 on the 23rd minute from the narrowest of angles. This was followed by more chances for Robert Jordan, Colm Breen and Stevie Fewer. The sides went in level at 1-1 half-time.

In the second half, again Old Bridge had the best of the opening minutes and managed to extend the lead to 2-1 on the 48th minute. Then another major moment for Villa when one of their defenders was sent off for a tackle just outside the 18 yard box. Old Bridge made their numbers advantage count and extended the lead to 3-1 on the 72nd minute. On the 84 minute Adam Garrett pulled it back to 3-2 with a fine finish. This made for an exciting final 6 minutes with Villa pushing for an equaliser which somehow eluded them. Final score: Old Bridge 3-2 Peake Villa B. Best on the day for Villa were David Mahoney, Stevie Fewer, Adam Garrett and Robert Jordan.
