TSDL Premier League - Peake Villa Junior A 2-4 St. Michael's A

Villa entertained St. Michael's on a wet Wednesday evening in a must win game for the home side to keep the pressure on at the top of the table. The home side got off to the worst possible start when Michaels were awarded a corner in the 2nd minute and it was their player who jumped highest to head the ball down to the goal line and it was tapped in. Villa settled into it and had a chance in the 8th minute but Keith Cahill's shot went over the bar. On 20 minutes Michael's were awarded a free just outside the box which took a big deflection that Willie Tierney did well to save, but it fell to the incoming striker who tapped in to make it 2-0 to Michael's. On 25 minutes Frank McKevitt made a great cross to Kevin Patan but his header went over the bar. Villa settled more into the game and had the best of the exchanges in the last 15 minutes in the first half and were rewarded for their efforts on the 43rd minute when Frank McKevitt scored a wonder goal receiving the ball outside the box flicked up with his right and buried it with his left to the bottom corner. Mikey Wade had a great strike in the 45th minute which was heading for the bottom corner but the Michael's stopper pulled off a great save. Half time 1-2.
The home side started the 2nd half as they finished the first taking the game to Michael's. Ronan McGuire came close on 50 minutes but his shot was straight at the keeper. On 66 minutes Dale Loughnane made a great cross but Tommy Teer's header was just over. The home side were dealt a cruel blow on 70 minutes when a Michael's corner was sent in and headed into the net by one of the Villa player's for an O.G. The home side kept up the pace and were awarded a free kick on 75 minutes that was scored by Keith Cahill floating into the top corner that made it 2-3 to the visitors. Villa kept the pressure on, but it was the visitors who scored again on 81 minutes with a cross from the right which was volleyed home at the back post. The last chance of the game came to the home side in injury time when Pippy Carroll with a lovely flick into the on running McGuire but the keeper was equal to it. Full Time 2-4.
