TSDL Premier League Result Peake Villa A 4-0 Vee Rovers
Scorer: Pippy Carroll (4)
Our first team entertained Vee Rovers up at the Tower Grounds Sunday afternoon and it was great to get back to Junior Football after such a long break. Slow enough start to the game with the home side playing some neat passing football. Villa took the lead in the 19th minute when Dale Loughnane found captain Pippy Carroll who scored. The home side got on top and scored again in the 32nd when Frank McKevitt’s shot was saved but Pippy was on hand to put it away to make It 2-0. In the 39th minute Pippy secured his hattrick with a fine finish from a free kick. Pippy secured the 3 points and capped a fine performance when he scored his 4th in the 39th minute. Half Time 4-0.
The second half was a tame affair with the wind knocked out of the Vee Rovers sails. Villa manager James O Sullivan made several changes in the second half giving some of his younger squad members some first team experience. Vee never gave up and had some half chances but it was the home side who took the spoils.
Full Time 4-0.
TSDL Division One St. Michael’s B 4-3 Peake Villa B
Scorers: Christy Burke (2) David Bourke (1)
Our Junior B team travelled to Tipperary Town to take on St.Michael's B who are owing into the season as one of the favorites to win it. It was the visitors who started quickest and went ahead in the 5th minute when a great through ball from Christy Burke found David Bourke who headed over the oncoming keeper to make it 1-0. The home team got into the game and created some chances and they took one of them in the 22nd minute to make it 1-1. Christy Burke came close with a header from a Darren McGuire cross in the 26th minute but his header was well saved.
Tom O'Reilly had a chance on the 28th minute but his shot blasted over. Villa finished the 1st half well with Robbie Jordan, Jack Kelly and Keelan Graham in midfield growing into the game and Cormac Lanigan and Kevin Croke solid in defense. Half Time 1-1.
The second half started lively with both sides having chances and the best fell to Villa when Jordan Fahey nearly got on the end of a cross only for a super clearance off the line to keep the sides level.
Villa took a deserved lead in the 71st minute when it was David Bourke who turned provider and found Christy Burke who put away a great strike to the bottom corner to make it 2-1 to the visitors. The home side equalized in the 75th minute with a good finish from outside the box. Michael's had their tails up after this and got on top and were rewarded in the 79th minute when they made it 3-2. In fairness to Villa they never gave up and it was Christy Burke again who scored with a fine finish to make it 3-3. It looked like the game could end up all square which would have been a fair result but St.Michael's bit of experience showed in the last 10 minutes and they scored the winner in the 84th minute. This was a cruel blow to the visitors who left nothing on the field but went down 4-3 in the end.
Man of the match was Christy Burke who ran the line up front very well and with an assist and two goals was a great return in the first game back in a long break away from competitive football. Manager David Bermingham will look at a lot of the positives and will move on encouraged by what he saw from his team.
