TSDL Youth League Div 1 - Peake Villa 11- 0 Cashel Town
Scorer: Robbie Stapleton (4), Michael Anthony McCarthy (2), Scott Brennan (2), Aaron Graham (1),
Siya Ndzingani (1), Paul Noonan (1)
Villa played our first youth game for almost a year and a half in the Tower Field against Cashel in the opening game of the league. Things were even for the first 10 mins and a good last ditch tackle from Conor Wall for Villa kept it nil all. Villa began to take over and a great ball from Scott Brennan opened up the Cashel defence on 15 mins, Robbie Stapleton scoring with a great touch and finish . The midfield of Josh Connolly, Mike Anthony McCarthy and Scott Brennan really drove Villa on for the rest of the half and they added 6 more goals. Two great finishes from Mike Anthony, a brilliant touch and finish from Aaron Graham, a Robbie Stapleton penalty , a Scott Brennan strike and a great first time finish from Siya Ndzingani doing the damage in the first half. Half time 7 - 0.
The squad got a good run out in the second half but the standard didn’t drop and Villa added further goals from Robbie Stapleton (2), a Scott Brennan penalty and a great strike from the edge of the box from Paul Noonan. All in all a good start for the lads and too hard to pick a standout player as everyone performed. A good clean sheet for the defence and some great finishing from our forward players.
TSDL Fixtures Sunday 29th August
Clonmel Credit Union Premier League Cahir Park 0-3 Peake Villa Junior A
Scorer: Ronan McGuire (3)
Peake Villa Junior A’s travelled to Cahir Park on a very warm last Sunday in August. Cahir weren’t the only youthful side on show as manager James O’Sullivan used this game to rotate his squad and play some of the younger players. Villa started the brightest and Ronan McGuire could have had a hat trick in the opening 15 minutes. Willy Tierney put him through one v one with the Cahir goalkeeper who did well to keep him out. Cahir were fighting well and looked threatening, but the defensive partnership of Sean Wade and Evan McCormack had to be alert and kept chances to a minimum. Danny Treacy linked up well with Keith Cahill who were constantly causing trouble for Cahir down their left side. After 20 minutes Villa finally broke the deadlock and went 1-0 up with a terrific Ronan McGuire header from a Keith Cahill corner giving the keeper no chance. Robbie Stapelton was really starting to dictate from the left wing and was creating chances at will, but Villa couldn’t find the killer blow. Youth player Scott Brennan added energy to the midfield with some excellent passing in the final third especially. Credit to Cahir, they kept fighting and looked very dangerous on the counter attack. On the 43rd minute it should have been 1-1 with a wonder strike from Cahir player Benny Ryan, only to see his 45 yard lob come off the crossbar. Just before the half was over, great work from Jack Ryan Casey in the middle, found Maris Baltins who bet two players and fed Ronan McGuire with a clever through ball, who made no mistake and swept the ball under the oncoming Cahir goalkeeper. 0-2 to Villa at Half-time.
The second half kicked off and Peake Villa started exactly how they finished the first half. A clever free kick saw Robbie Stapleton come close. Ronan was searching for the hat trick and when he went round the keeper with an open goal, he squared to the oncoming Keith Cahill only to see his pass go behind, in what looked like a certain goal. 16 year old Michael Anthony McCarthy made an appearance for the last 15 minutes and with a lovely bit of skill on the edge of the box he earned Villa a free kick. Keith Cahill let fly but once again the Cahir Park keeper pulled another shot out from the top corner. Ronan McGuire finally made it 3-0 and got the hat trick with 5 minutes remaining and secured the 3 points for Peake Villa.
Well done to the two youth players Scott Brennan and Michael Anthony McCarthy making their debuts for the A team. Two very promising players for the future along with youth striker Robbie Stapleton. Best on the day, hat trick hero, Ronan McGuire.
Clonmel Credit Union First Division - Clonmel Celtic 3 - 2 Peake Villa Junior B
Scorer: Eoin O Dwyer (1) Kevin Croke (1)
Villa B travelled to Clonmel Sunday looking to pick up a first victory of new season in warm conditions on a fantastic surface. Clonmel Celtic started well on the front foot and had a lot of pressure on the Villa defence but Villa took the lead on 14 minutes when the home keeper failed to deal with a cross from Tom Reilly on the left and Eoin O Dwyer took advantage to put villa 1-0 up. Celtic pushed for equaliser and scored it on 35 minutes after a mix up in the Villa defence and soon later it was 2-1 to Celtic after a penalty was awarded to the home side. From a throw out on the left side Celtic got the ball into the Villa box and the shot took a deflection into the back of the net to make it 3-1. Shane McGuire in Villa goal pulled off a brilliant save from a Celtic free kick which was heading for top corner. Half time 3-1 to Celtic.
Villa improved greatly in the 2nd half and had a couple of chances through Tom Reilly and Christy Burke but failed to hit the target. They finally got their reward for their efforts with 20 minutes to go through a Kevin Croke header to leave it 3-2. Villa pushed on looking for equaliser and put the home team under some pressure but time ran out and unfortunately for Villa went down 3-2 in the end.
Beat for Villa on the day was Kevin Croke, Eoin O'Dwyer, Adam Garrett and Sean Condron who was making his junior soccer debut today.
