TSDL Division 1 Peake Villa Junior B 3-0 Cullen Lattin
A big League game for both sides in the fight to stay in Division One and despite missing a number of regulars due to various reasons it was a youthful Villa side that started brightest in tough weather conditions at the Tower Grounds Sunday afternoon. Danny Treacy and Jordan Fahy were having good joy down the right flank which led to a couple of half chances for Robbie Stapleton and Jack Kelly but they failed to hit the target. Scott Brennan making his first start in Junior soccer began to take over the midfield exchanges aided by the hard working John Walsh and their dominance led to a number of Villa corners. Jack Kelly came close on 30 minutes but his shot was deflected out for a corner. From Darren McGuire's resulting corner the ball was headed in by the Cullen Lattin defender to put the home side 1-0 up. Cullen lattin came more in to the game now but some good defending from Foggy Fogarty and Sean Condron kept them at bay and soon after Shane McGuire in the villa goal made a great save. John Walsh came close in the 40th minute when his shot hit the upright. Just before half time Cullen Lattin hit the woodwork. A lively first half that seen the home side go 1-0 up.
In the second half the visitors had a great chance to equalize but McGuire again pulled off a great save.
On 60 minutes Villa went 2-0 up after another great delivery from a Darren McGuire corner was finished to the net by top scorer Robbie Stapleton. Cullen Lattin pushed to get back into game and but for Villa's defence kept them at bay. Villa wrapped up the points in the 86th minute when after another corner ball was cleared to James O Sullivan who finished first time past the keeper. A fine performance from a mostly young Villa side. Best on the day were Shane McGuire, Darren McGuire, Foggy Fogarty Jordan Fahy and man of match Scott Brennan.
