Division 1 Shield - Peake Villa Junior B 3 - 1 Old Bridge
Scorers: Robbie Stapleton (2) Paraic Fogarty (1)
Villa entertained the Old Bridge up at the Tower grounds Sunday afternoon looking to make up for their defeat to the same opposition in the final league game of the season recently. Villa started with a mixture of youth and experience and took the game to the visitors from the 1st minute with Jordan Fahy and Adam Garrett causing havoc down the right side leading to half chances for Kevin Croke and Robbie Stapleton which failed to hit the target. Villa took the lead after just 3 minutes when Mark Lennon released Conor Murphy down the left wing and he sent in the perfect cross to the box for Robbie Stapleton to finish and put Villa 1-0 up. Villa kept on the front foot and made it 2-0 on 19 minutes after good work from Adam Garrett who passed to Keelan Graham who's cross was expertly headed to the bottom corner by Foggy Fogarty to put Villa 2-0 ahead. Villa saw out the remainder of 1st half with the youthful centre back pairing of Sean Condron and Aidan Butler keeping the visitors attacking threat to a minimum.
Villa lost Foggy Fogarty to injury but replacement Scott Brennan fitted in nicely with his high work rate closing down the visitors defence. The second half started in the same way and Villa made it 3-0 straight away when a lovely floated ball over the top from Mark Lennon found Robbie Stapleton who headed over on the on rushing keeper for his second of the day. Straight from the kick off the visitors made it 3-1 with long range effort from tip off but Villa pushed on looking for more goals and could afford to empty the bench bringing on Alex Moloney, Jack Kelly and Cormac Lanigan. Villa had some late chances to add to the scoreline but settled in the end for the 3-1 win and advance to play Wilderness in the semi final next Sunday in Clonmel. An all round solid performance from the squad with best on the day Sean Condron, Kevin Croke, Mark Lennon, Robbie Stapleton and man of the match Keelan Graham. Full Time 3-1.
