A good weekend for Peake Villa which saw the majority of their competitive teams win with some fine performances by players.
Saturday 28th September
U16 SFAI National Cup Cahir Park 1 - 5 Peake Villa
This was the first game in the SFAI National Cup with Villa away to Cahir Park. Villa started very brightly and had the ball in the back of the net after great work by Matthew McKevitt(Capt) whose left side cross was met in the box by Jack Hackett who slotted the ball home with his left foot. The second was a superb left footed shot by Colm aka Jimmy Pearson across the goal into the top half of the net. HT 2-0.
The lads continued their good passing play in the second half. Matthew Kelly broke down the left side and his excellent cross was met inside the box on the volley by Mark Purcell. Mid way through the half Jack Hackett got his second, reacting faster to a goal mouth scramble from a corner. Cahir Park pressed to get a goal and they were awarded a penalty when Jamie Hackett fouled inside the box. Five minutes from time, Jack Hackett sealed his third hat trick in four games with a well executed shot from 30 yards out. Final Score 5-1. They now meet Carrick United in the next round on Sat Oct 12th.
U14 SFAI National Cup Lions (Durrow) 0 - 3 Peake Villa
Our u14’s travelled to Kilkenny in their national cup tie and came home with an impressive win. It was nip and tuck in the 1st half with Mikey O Connell making some fine saves, Villa took the lead just after the break with a goal from Jack Taylor. Ronan McGuire came close shortly after before Frank Mckevitt put villa 2 up, Frank secured the tie with 10 minutes to go when he got his 2nd of the day. It was’nt all villa and only for a man of the match performance by Villa’s keeper Mikey O Connell the score could have been quite different. They now meet Clonmel Celtic in the next round on Sat Oct 12th.
U12 SFAI National Cup Peake Villa 9 - 2 St. Kevins
This second round tie was a comfortable victory for Villa with the home team putting in a fine performance. Villa opened the scoring when Jack Kelly got on the end of a pass from Oisin OBrien to put the home side 1-0 up, shortly after Oisin OBrien made it 2-0. James Armstrong made it 3-0 after 5 minutes and Villa were 4-0 up in the 7th when O Brien got his second of the day, Kevins brought some life back into the tie with 2 goals in quick succession. Villa made it 5 just before the break when Armstrong got his second of the day. Villa started brightly in the second half when Adam Daly made it 6-2 and man of the match Oisin OBrien made it 7 shortly after. Paddy Creedon who controlled the mid field all day for Villa got a deserved goal with 7 minutes to go from 30 yards out. Villa rapped up a fine performance in the last minute when Adam Daly got his 2nd of the day. They now meet Piltown in the next round on Sat Oct 12th.
FAI Youth Cup Cahir Park 2 - 6 Peake Villa
Villa go through to the next round after a comfortable win against Cahir. Maris Baltins gave Villa the lead after 10 minutes when he lobbed the keeper, he doubled their lead shortly after with a great strike to the top corner. Villa made it 3-0 after the break when Mikey Wade scored, Adam Garrett put the game out of Cahir’s reach when he scored 2 goals in 5 minutes, Cahir got 2 back before Billy Mc Carthy finished off the scoring for Villa when he Chipped the keeper to make it 6-2.
Sunday 29th September
U12 Girls Tipperary Town 0 - 2 Peake Villa
Our U12 girls travelled to Tipp Town and came away with a great win. The girls are unbeaten after 2 games which is a great achievement considering a lot have them have never played before. Villa controlled the 1st half and applied all the pressure but could not break down Tipp Town’s defence. Villa finally went 1 up in the 3rd minute of the 2nd half when they were awarded a penalty kick after a hand ball in the area which was calmly put away by Saoirse Teer. Villa continued to dominate and the villa keeper Emma ”Tiny” Kelly was rarely called into action but when she was, she cleared her lines well. Villa went 2 up with 5 minutes to go when Queva OMeara scored a great goal with a great lob to beat the Tipp keeper.
U10 Boys St, Kevins 5 - 2 Peake Villa
St. Kevins came out on top in newhill 5-2, scorers for villa were Niall Dunne and Ciaran Woodlock.
U10 Boys Clonmel Town C 3 - 10 Peake Villa
Peake Villa U10 team won 10-3 in Clonmel.
Junior B Division 4 League Tipperary Town 0 - 1 Peake Villa
This was a hard fought contest that went to the wire, there was nothing between them in the 1st half with David Fitzgearld coming the closest to scoring for Villa only for it to be ruled out for off side. In the 2nd half Villa took the lead through Tom Rykala from a great pass by Tom Grodski in the 50th minute. Sam Martin came close after this and Ger “Redser” O Grady hit the bar in the 80th, Tipp Town pushed hard in the last 10 minutes for an equalizer but stern defending by Liam Mackey and John Leahy kept them out.
