Weekend Review
U13 National Cup.
Peake Villa 3 Freebooters 3. (Villa win 5-4 on penalties).
Villa continued their national cup campaign against Freebooters one of the top Kilkenny sides.
Villa were immediately on the back foot as Freebooters went 1-0 up in the first minute. Villa continued to struggle and a blocked shot in the 16th min span over the head of the villa keeper to make it 2-0 to the visitors.
Villa then got back into the game with a well worked corner where captain Darragh Stakelum scored with a header. Villa continued to press and got caught on the break by a diagonal ball where the left winger struck a 25 yarder straight into the top corner to make it 3-1 to freebooters with one minute before half time Darragh broke through into the box and squared to Liam McCormack who toe poked home to make it 3-2 going into the break.
Villa came out the second half much better and forced save after save from the freebooters keeper but couldn't break through until a shot from Oscar Milczark was spilled by the keeper and Darragh finished but was ruled offside. Time ticked on by and villa still couldn't make the break through and with the last kick of the game villa equalised through a corner that was cleared but only to Oskar who volleyed home to make it 3-3.
Extra time then started and both teams were equal. Ball was going from end to end but for some quality saves from villa keeper Mark McCarthy kept villa in the game and ended 3-3 after extra time.
Penalties started with freebooters scoring there first. Liam McCormack stepped up to level for villas first. Freebooters stepped up for there second penalty but a great save from keeper Mark McCarthy denied freebooters the lead. Danny Tracy put villa 2-1 up to then be equalised. Sean Condron scored the third penalty to make it 3-2 and again freebooters equalised. Mikey Ryan scored the forth penalty but freebooters scored there's to make it 4-4. Niall Dunne stepped up to win the penalty shootout and perfectly slotted home to win 5-4 and send the boy's into the 4th round of the National Cup.
Thanks to freebooters for a great game of soccer and wish them best of luck in there league campaign.
Division 2 League
Peake Villa (B) 1 Clonmel Town 2.
Villa's second team entertained Clonmel in this league game and played well for the most part leading 1-0 at the break with the goal scored by Anto Walker. Clonmel got back into the game in the 2nd half and got the winner near the end of the game.
U15 League.
Peake Villa 3 Clonmel Celtic 1
Villa u15s got their League campaign off to the perfect start with 3 points against Clonnel Celtic.
After gaining the upper hand in the early stages the home side took the lead on 15minutes when Mikey Neary climbed highest to power home a Cian Stakelum corner. Villa should have extended the lead on the half time whistle but Paddy Stakelum's effort was ruled offside.
Villa made their second half dominance count 18 minutes into the half when Paddy Stakelum was dragged down in the box and Kevin Patan coolly dispatched the resulting penalty. Four minutes later Patan grabbed his second, firing to the roof of the net after a goalmouth scramble.
Celtic grabbed a consolation from a penalty with ten minutes to go,
Overall, this was a very satisfying performance with all performing with credit.
Youths League.
Clerihan 2 Peake Villa 2
Villa dropped2 points in this league game having most of the play a game where they missed a host of chances and hitting the upright on a couple of occasions. Villa's two goals were scored by Evan McCormack.
U16 Girls league.
Burncourt/Kilbehenny 5 Peake Villa 1
Burncourt - Kilbehenny started the strongest and had the understrength PV under pressure from kick off. Saoirse Teer made some great saves but eventually was caught on her left with a well taken shot from No 11. Villa pushed forward to get the equaliser and Katie Maher and Lauren McCormack had chances but their shots on goal went straight at the keeper. Villa were caught by a quick throw and conceded a second. The third came from our failure to clear a corner. HT 3-0. Villa moved Lauren to centre of defence which stopped the flow of goals and Lauren then scored from a well taken free kick to pull one back. Villa were caught on the break twice towards the end of the match - final score 5-1.
U12 Girls League.
Cashel Rebels 0 Peake Villa (A) 6
Our U12 (A) team travelled to Cashel and came away with all three points. It was a close affair for most of the 1st half with nothing between them. Just before the break Villa started to get on top and got the opener when Missy Condon broke through the Cashel defence to score.
The second half saw Villa take full control and Missy Condon scored again before Robyn Fanning added another with 15 minutes to go. Emma Kelly made it 4-0 shortly after. The goal of the game came with 8 minutes left when good work by Condon saw her break down the right to cross the ball which was met by Kelly on the run to make it 5-0. Missy Condon secured her hatrick right at the death to cap a fine performance in a game where she was unstoppable. Credit to Villa's defence and Goalkeeper Katie Gleeson who kept Cashel at bay more than once throughout.
Peake Villa (B) 0 St.Kevins 6
This was always going to be a tough assignment for our second team who we're up against a strong Kevin's team. The Girls played well in the first half holding out the opposition but conceded before the break. they would have been a lot more behind only for the heroics of Alina Keogh in the Villa goal.
The girls got tired in the 2nd half and inevitable happened with Kevin's getting on top.
This league will split half way through the season and with the girls improving and can see them doing well in there division.
