Weekend Review 20/21 February.
The weather played havoc again at the weekend with most fixtures being called off.
Second division League.
Donohill & District 4
Peake Villa 5.
The boys made one of the best fight backs in the history of the club in this league game which they needed to win to keep their hopes of staying in the division alive.
Villa's back four we're torn apart in the first half by Donohill and were to go in at half time break 3-0 playing against a strong breeze but some of villa's defending was poor.
Villa management then made a couple of changes and went three at the back playing with the wind in the second half and with nothing to lose had a go.
Five minutes into the half Kevin Quinn struck a great goal to get villa going. Adam Garrett then scored with a calm finish when one on one with the keeper.
Donohill then got a forth goal with fifteen minutes to go.
Villa then had a lad sent off and it looked like it would be a bridge too far but nobody had told Daimen Grimes he made it 4-3 with a cracking strike.
He then made it 4-4 with a flick from a Davy Carroll cross.
He then won the game with another cracking strike from a lovely set up by Keith Cahill.
Villa held on to record a famous and they now have six cup finals left to stay up and with this result it could be the springboard fo the rest of their season.
U14 League.
St Kevin's 1 Peake Villa 1.
Villa traveled to the league leaders and local rivals on a wet Saturday Morning last.
The opening 10 minutes of the game was a very tense affair with neither side getting a foot hold in the game.
On 15 minutes Kevin's had the first chance of the game when a fine effort looked destined for the back of the net only for a excellent save from Mark McCarthy.
The deadlock was broken on 20 minutes when Paddy Creedon made a great run down the line and pulled the ball back to Dillon Maher who passed through to Liam Mccormack who chipped the Kevin's keeper from 25 yards with an outstanding finish.
Neither side created any clear cut chances in the remainder of the first half with both defences doing well .
The second half was a very similar situation.
Villa had a great chance to go two up when Paddy Creedon broke through the Borris back four and looked certain to slide the ball past the oncoming keeper only for a very good last ditched tackle from the Borris centre half.
With 15 minutes remaining Borris levelled the game with a good header from a corner.
Villa responded well to this set back and were very unlucky when Eamonn White played through Paddy Creedon who's effort found the side netting.
Kevin's created one good chance late on only for the shot to go wide after the centre forward was crowded out by the Villa Defenders.
A good performance all round by the lads in what was very difficult conditions for both sides to play in.
