Fai Junior Cup - Nenagh Celtic 1 -2 Peake Villa
Pleake Villa travelled to Nenagh Sunday for a tough away tie in the Fai Junior Cup. The first 20 minutes was a tight affair with the home side creating a few chances and Villa dangerous on the counter attack. The game kicked into life in the 25th minute when Villa took the lead. Gary Loyns found Pippy Carroll with a throw in, Pippy got great power in the header to find the top corner of the Celtic goal giving the keeper no chance. Villa were on top and were pressing hard for a second when Gary Loyns got injured and had to come off. Adam Garrett came on for Lyons and made an instant impact putting Villa 2-0 up in the 29th minute when he chested down the ball and his shot from 25 yards out found the top corner. They say your most vulnerable just after scoring and that was the case for Villa when Celtic made it 2-1 in the 30th minute with a fine over head kick from Celtics No.11 Jamie Kelly. Both teams cancelled each other out for the rest of the half. 2-1 at halftime. The second half was a proper Cup tie with the home side looking for an equaliser but found the Villa keeper Stephen Ryan in fine form making some good saves. Villa had a great chance in the 74th minute to go 3-1 up when Pippy Carroll broke away down the line and crossed to Matthew Mckevitt who's shot just went wide of the post. Villa held on for a great away win and put their names in the hat for the next round. Anto Walker and Matthew Fogarty had fine games in defence for Villa and Maris Baltins and Pippy Carroll were excellent in midfield for Villa with Matthew Mckevitt a constant threat up front. A great team performance.
Division Three League Peake Villa B 5 -2 Kilmanahan Utd
Our second team were at home to Kilmanahan Utd. Villa started the game quickly testing the goalie with two shots early on. Davie Mahoney scored after 6 minutes finishing well with the assist coming from Christy Burke. Kilmanahan equalised on 20 mins through Aiden Carroll. Villa retook the lead at the start of the second half, a loose ball in the box falling to David Burke who calmly slotted home.
Kilmanahan levelled almost straight away when Christy Burke was tackled from behind in the Kilmanahan box, lt seemed a certain penalty but the ref let it go and Kilmanahan broke quickly to score through Jake Mulcahy. After that it was all Villa and David Mahoney pressured the goalie into a mistake and slotted home for his second and Villa's third. Christy Burke got Villa's fourth chasing down a back pass before finishing well. Villa got their fifth in the 91st min Darragh Byrne with a good ball to Jody Mahoney who put Davie Mahoney through to get his hat trick. A great result for the lads and a great team performance.
U15 Premier league Peake Villa 4 - 0 Cahir
Villa entertained Cahir on Saturday morning and went about the job in a very efficient manner . Villa had the majority of possession and chances in the opening 10 minutes . Villa went 1 up when Liam Mccormack played Paddy Creedon through on goal Paddy took the ball around the keeper and slotted into the empty net. Villa pushed for a second and only for some excellent saves from the Cahir keeper they would have been further ahead. On 20 minutes a lovely move starting from Mark McCarthy in goals was worked down the right side involving 5 players, Jack kelly picked out Cathal McElgun who made no mistake and found the back of the net. The second half was similar to the first half with Villa having most of the ball. Henry Fogarty chipped a ball to Liam McCormack who's half volley from the edge of the box went into the top corner. 5 minutes later it was 4 when a great team goal ended up with a 20 yard strike from Dillon Maher into the top corner. The defence of Oisin O'Brien , Conor Stapleton , Kieran Boyle and Danny Treacy all had a fine game. Credit to Cahir on never giving up and fighting right to the end . Villa u15 have now gone a full year unbeaten in Tipperary in all competitions.
