Premier League: Peake Villa 1 - 1 Clonmel Celtic
Villa started brightly and had all the early pressure. It was Celtic though that opened the scoring when they broke down the wing and the cross was headed in by Evan McGuire who was unmarked in the Villa box. The lead was short lived when Matthew McKevitt was put through by Pippy Carroll who got behind the Celtic defence only to be brought down by the keeper. A penalty kick was awarded and Pippy Carroll made no mistake making it 1-1 in the 24th minute. There were a few chances at either end after this but they went in at the break all square.
Villa were much the better team in the second half but could not find the break through. Celtic played well in defence to keep out Pippy Carroll, Matthew Mckevitt and Dale Lougnane. A lot of positives to take from the game going into their FAI Junior Cup tie in Cork next weekend.
Peake Villa B 4 -2 Killenaule
Villa started this game quickly and had a good chance when Jody Mahoney got behind the Killenaule defence but their goalkeeper got out quickly to save well. Villa did score in the 11th minute, a great through ball by Jody Mahoney for Ronan McGuire to score. The next chance fell to Killenaule, a free kick from the edge of the area forcing a great save from Shane McGuire. Ronan McGuire got his and Villa's second just before halftime this time put through by Darragh Byrne. Villa got their third on 58 minutes, Damo Walczak with a great cross for Ronan McGuire to head in his third. Villa did get a little sloppy after that letting Connor Sinnott in twice to score to bring Killenaule right back into the match and leave the score at 3-2. David Mahoney scored though right after Killenaules second to finish the scoring. Another good performance from the lads especially the wingers Darragh Byrne and Damo Walczak to keep them at the top of the division.
U14 Premier League St. Kevins 1 - 2 Peake Villa
Villa went to local rivals St. Kevin's in a crucial match for Villa's league chances. Kevin's started bright when a through ball split the Villa defence but for a tremendous sliding save from keeper Gavin o Shaughnessy. Villa got a foot hold in the game and went 1-0 up in 10mins when the ball started on the right with Calum Blakeborough who passed back to Tony Galvin who whipped an inch perfect ball to the back post for Cathal McElgunn to slide in and finish in the bottom corner across the keeper. Villa continued to press and control the game and should have gone ahead when they had a free kick by the corner flag. Liam McCormack fired straight across the face of the goal and clipped the back post on the way out. Villa went into half time 1-0 up.
Second half started and Villa continued to press with Darragh Stakelum impressing in the heart of the midfield and Liam McCormack playing in an unfamiliar defensive midfield role but excelling. Kevin's got back into the game when there centre midfielder picked up scraps on the edge of the box and struck off the bar and in. Villa kept playing and got there reward when Liam McCormack's corner found Darragh Stakelum who headed home across the keeper with 10 mins left on the clock.
Great team performance from the lads. Well done to Villa's back line Gavin, Danny Treacy, Sean Condron, Emmet Fogarty and Niall Dunne on a great defensive performance.
