Tipperary Cup - Peake Villa B 3 - 3 Rosegreen Rangers - Villa win 5-4 on penalties
Our B team were at home to 1st division team Rosegreen Rangers on Sunday in the 1st round of the Tipperary Cup. Rosegreen started strongly and had Villa under pressure which paid off when a ball into the box was put into his own net by a villa defender. Villa got onto the ball a lot more after that and equalised in the 25th minute with a great move involving Andrew O Halloran and Ronan McGuire to set up Davy Bourke to finish well. Both sides had chances before halftime, Kevin Quinn making a goal line clearance for villa.
In the second half Rosegreen again made the better start , Dara brown scoring after only 3 minutes. Villa had another blow soon after when Davy Bourke was sent off for a second yellow. Rosegreen went 3-1 ahead in the 70th minute through Brendan Ryan and the game looked over at that stage but credit to the lads they never gave up and got back into the game when Ronan McGuire made it 3-2.
Villa kept pushing and looked like they had the extra player. They equalised in the 80th minute, Darragh Byrne putting a great ball into the box for Andrew O Halloran to head home. It was 3-3 at the end of normal time, the game went to extra time and both teams pushed hard for the winner but could not find a way through and the match went to penalties. Both teams scored their first three penalties but Shane McGuire saved Rosegreens fourth and Villa scored theirs. Davie Mahoney stepped up to take villas 5th and Davie made no mistake to send villa through to the next round. Massive performance again from the lads, 3-1 down and playing with 10 men they never gave up and found a way through to the next round. Penalty takers for Villa were Shane McGuire, Seamie Hanafin, Matty Kavanagh, Kevin Quinn and Davie Mahoney. Great win for the boy's in the Cup.
